Chobe National Park and Linyanti Reserve

Chobe is the second largest national park in Botswana, and covers 11,000km2. The varied habitat which includes mopane forest, marshlands and rivers make it an ideal home for a wide variety of wildlife. It is famous for its huge herds of elephants which the lions here specialize in hunting. The riverfront which has a high concentration of game is the forcus for most game drives. Hippo, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, jackal, warthog, kudu, sable, and many more species are present and easily seen, making it a great place to observe and photograph wildlife. A boat trip on the Chobe River is the perfect way to enjoy wildlife. The marshy floodplain is where you will most likely see the red lechwe and the puku. This area is at its best for wildlife viewing from about June to October.

The park is divided into various different areas: Chobe riverfront, Savuti & the Madabe Depression and the Ngwezumba Dams & Pans. To the northwest of Savuti bordering Chobe there is a wetland area - the Linyanti Wildlife Reserve. Savuti and the Madabe Depression are also popular areas in the park as, again, the wildlife is quite dense here, especially from about November to May. Savuti lies within the Madabe Depression which is a huge hollow left behind from an ancient lake.
