Xakanaxa Camp in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, Botswana
Xakanaxa camp (pronounced Ka-Kan-A-Ka) sits among the huge kigelia (sausage) and
mopane trees and just a few meters off the edge of the Xakanaxa Lagoon. Approximately
50km west of the Khwai Gate in the northern sector of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve
To the north and west of the camp are the beautiful permanent lagoons and to the
south and the east are the stunning woodlands.
Xakanaxa is often perceived to be one of the best locations in Botswana and the
Moremi Wildlife Reserve is one of the top rated reserves in Africa. There is a huge
range of game in the area, from lions and leopards to the herds of wildebeest, elephants
and many more. Birding in the area is incredible, especially during the summer months
where the famous heronries attract large numbers of breeding storks and herons.
Fishing is extremely good during the summer months where bream and tiger fish fill
the waters. Boat trips and game drives are carried out by a team of expert guides.
The camp has twelve luxury safari tents that are set on wooden platforms near the
water edge, and furnished with two beds, a table and chairs. Hot and cold water
showers and flush toilets in each room and light is supplied by hurricane lamps.
The dining room and bar is beautifully designed with reed walls.
