Sitting in the woodpile hide at the waterhole in front of the camp watching the elephants when they don’t know you are there is amazing. Game drives through the savute channel is a highlight, it is one of the most beautiful areas in the Linyanti.
Savuti Camp is situated in an isolated part of the Linyanti Concession along the Savute Channel in northern Botswana. In the 1980s, the Savute Channel, deep, clear and harbouring hundreds of hippo and aquatic life, dried up, due to shifts in the Linyanti Fault system. What remains is an unusual and productive ribbon of grassland that serves as a corridor and feeding ground in the surrounding woodland for a wide variety of herbivores. An exciting development has been that in recent years the Channel has 'flowed' along varying distances of its length. The Savute Channel stopped flowing in 1980 and what was a hippo-filled river, is now wide, open grasslands, although in recent years the Channel has 'flowed' along varying distances of its length. This area is a legendary predators’ enclave and Savuti Camp is ideally situated along this Channel - its waterhole the only source of water for both quantities and varieties of wildlife.
The Gorilla tekking was amazing and we saw so much wildlife in the other game parks too. Sarah has been amazing – not only in helping us coordinate this, but also in answering our many questions all of the time
