Impalila Island Lodge, Botswana

Gregory Fox, Botswana

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Impalila Island Lodge, in particular the magnificent views over the river. The lodge has a really relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff and great guides.

Impalila Island Lodge is a 16-bedded luxury lodge with much to offer discerning clients. The Lodge is situated in north eastern Namibia on Impalila Island which forms the meeting place of four countries - Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana. The surrounding area is an amazing mosaic of waterways, floodplains and bushveld:- host to exceptional birdlife, game viewing and assorted vegetation - and in the waters outstanding fishing opportunities. Impalila is also the most secluded and remote of the Chobe destinations but close enough to offer guests the very best of the Chobe River – that is game viewing by boat.

Location

The lodge is a 1 ½ hour drive from Livingstone to Kasane Immigration followed by an approximately 20 min boat ride to the lodge. Or you can fly from Livingstone ((½ hour flight) or Maun (1 ½ hour to 2 hour flight ) to Impalila Airstrip.

Highlights

  • At Impalila game viewing by boat in the Chobe National Park for Africa's big game is preferable during the mid afternoon to sunset when game comes down to the water's edge to drink. The Chobe is but a short distance away and one of the attractions is to take a late afternoon cruise into the Kasai channel and from there into the Chobe - renowned for vast elephant herds, buffalo, lion, hippo, the rare Chobe bushbuck and puku.

Botswana Review

All I really know about Botswana is the camps I stayed in and the bush apart from a brief visit to Maun which can probably best be described as a "frontier" town but it seemed to me to be clean and orderly
