Tau Pan Camp


Tau Pan Camp is situated inside the world famous Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) right on the edge of the beautiful Tau Pan. "Kalahari" is derived from the Tswana word Kgala meaning “great thirst” – and it has vast areas covered by red sand without any permanent water. The Kalahari Desert is the largest sand basin in the world stretching 2,500kms from the northern regions of South Africa through to Namibia/Angola and ending in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) The Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) is the largest game reserve in the world (52,800 sq km's) and for many years was closed to the public, hence it is known for being one of Africa's last true wild areas.

Location

By Air: A 50 minute flight from Maun followed by a short 5km drive from the airstrip to the Tau Pan Camp. The camp is situated on a sand ridge overlooking Tau Pan and commands stunning views of the permanent Tau Pan water hole and the endless Kalahari horizon.

Activities

Activities on offer at Tau Pan are mainly safari based, such as game viewing drives.

Child Policy

Tau Pan Camp accepts children. For ages 6 - 12 a private vehicle needs to be booked for safari. Children under 6 years are welcome only if exclusive use of the camp is booked.

Children over 12 are treated as adults.

Accommodation

Guests at Tau Pan are accommodated in 8 custom-built desert tents under thatch, while the main area consists of dining room, lounge area and a viewing deck.

All I really know about Botswana is the camps I stayed in and the bush apart from a brief visit to Maun which can probably best be described as a "frontier" town but it seemed to me to be clean and orderly
