Lagoon Camp

The boat cruise on the Kwando River was one of my highlights visiting Lagoon Camp, the bird life was exceptional and the natural beauty of this area is unforgettable.

Situated in the Linyanti region Lagoon Camp lies on the shady banks of the Kwando River among tall and ancient African Ebony and Marula trees, under the watchful gaze of the resident hippos. This area is home to huge herds of elephants and buffalo. There are few places in Africa where such concentrated numbers of these animals exist, especially in the dry season. Over the years, many of guests have commented that Lagoon Camp stands out as one of the most beautiful settings of any safari camp.

Location

Lagoon Camp is an approximately 45 minute flight from Maun and 50 minute flight to Kasane. The camp is a short drive from the airstrip.

Highlights

  • Safaris are operated only in exclusive, private areas enabling off road game drives.
  • Lagoon is famous as the best venue in Africa for wild dog viewing as the dogs have denned near the camp every year of the camps existence. These animals are generally very relaxed in the presence of vehicles, meaning the sightings are usually at close range and many guests have seen amazing action.
  • The shady, treed environment of the camp hosts a great variety of birds and squirrels that visit daily. A family of hippo and an elephant or three are regularly sighted from the tents. This contributes to the relaxed calm that prevails at Lagoon.
  • The camp has a guide and tracker system to maximize sightings of game species.

Facilities

Facilities available at Lagoon Camp include:

  • Thatched Dining Room
  • Bar
  • Curio Shop

Activities

Lagoon Camp Guests can enjoy a diverse wildlife experience all year-round, but the focus is definitely on the water. Activities include: mekoro (dugout canoe) rides, double deck boat cruises, fishing (both spinner and fly), guided walks and morning, afternoon and night drives.

Accommodation:

Lagoon Camp offers 8 x luxury safari-style tents. Each tent looks out over the water and has private en-suite facilities, including 24 hour hot and cold running water, open-air showers, flush toilets and modern amenities.

Customer Reviews of the Kwando Lagoon Camp

Honeymoon to Zambia, Botswana, Mauritius and South Africa during October 2011

Carlos and PD, our guide and tracker respectively, were outstanding. They communicated everything that they saw or thought regarding the safari back to us and their knowledge was excellent. The staff back at the camp were excellent too.

Holiday to Botswana during February 2011

Botswana Review

All I really know about Botswana is the camps I stayed in and the bush apart from a brief visit to Maun which can probably best be described as a "frontier" town but it seemed to me to be clean and orderly
