Mashatu Safari - 5 nights

The following sample holiday is a 5 night safari in Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana. It is an area of exceptional beauty and offers some of the most exciting game viewing in Africa. Explore the unspoilt African landscapes either in the comfort of open 4-wheel drive vehicles, on a walking safari, via mountain bike or horseback, all guided by expert rangers and experienced trackers. In addition to the game experience, Mashatu offers a view of Africa, unchanged since the days of early visitors such as Kipling, Selous and artist/explorer Sir Thomas Baines.

We have found that many travellers wish to incorporate Victoria Falls in Zambia at the start of the trip. If you like you can also add on a desert experience in the Kalahari or Makagadikgadi.

In many cases guests like the idea of a twin centre holiday and move on from Botswana to the beaches of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa, Mozambique or Mauritius or enjoy a city break in Cape Town. What you choose is dependent on season, how much time you have on your hands and of course budget.

Chat to Mahlatini’s experts who will tailor a full holiday for you to include a stay at the fabulous Mashatu Game Reserve.

Mashatu Game Reserve is the largest privately owned game reserve in Southern Africa. Known as the land of the giants due to Mashatu's landscape which is dotted with massive rocky sandstone outcrops, baobab trees and big game. Mashatu is also home to the largest elephant population (almost 900) on private land in Africa. Mashatu is located in the South Eastern corner of Botswana in what is know locally as the Tuli block and occupies an area between the Shashe and Limpopo rivers. It's wide range of habitat from riverine forests, savannah grasslands, floodplains and rugged outcrops of sandstone allow it to support a large variety of wildlife although it is chiefly known for its big game such as Elephant, Buffalo and Lion.

Mashatu offers luxury accommodation in both permanent and tented camps both of which are designed to combine a luxury safari experience with a taste of the African bushveld. Day and night game drives in 4x4 vehicles and guided walking trails are both offerd as well has mountain biking and horse riding within the reserve which have become popular activities and allow a different opportunity to approach wild animals in their natural habitat. Guides oversee such excursions and add to the experience through their extensive knowledge of the bush.

Day 6:
After your morning activity and brunch you will be met and transferred by road to Polokwane were you will connect to your flight back to Johannesburg.

Holiday to Botswana during February 2011

Botswana Review

All I really know about Botswana is the camps I stayed in and the bush apart from a brief visit to Maun which can probably best be described as a "frontier" town but it seemed to me to be clean and orderly
