Day 1 - 3:

A Mahlatini representative from Mahlatini will meet you on arrival at Victoria Falls Airport in Zimbabwe for your road transfer to Matetsi Lodge.

Matetsi Private Game Reserve is located a mere 45 minutes from the spectacular Victoria Falls. It forms a huge conservation area that extends throughout northwestern Zimbabwe and into Chobe National Park in neighbouring Botswana, with no fences to restrict the natural movement of species. Renowned for its rich game viewing and particularly high concentration of elephant, this 50 000 hectare (123 600 acre) private game reserve offers a superb variety of wildlife. The reserve is one of the few in the country to offer night game drives, giving guests an exciting opportunity to view the nocturnal hunting habits of lion, leopard and spotted hyena. Matetsi is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with more than 366 bird species recorded at the reserve.

With 15 km (nine miles) of exclusive Zambezi River frontage, Matetsi offers an unrivalled river experience in addition to spectacular game viewing and birdwatching. Guests delight in afternoon riverboat cruises and guided canoe excursions along the Zambezi River.

As well as guided walks, fishing trips can also be arranged at certain times of the year. A complementary daily shuttles take guests to Victoria Falls. Adventure activities such as helicopter flights, bungee jumping, whitewater rafting and scenic tours of the Falls can be arranged at an additional cost.

Day 4 - 6:

After a leisurely breakfast you will be met at Matetsi and transferred back by road over the border at Kasane and into Botswana heading to Chobe Under Canvas Camp. This mobile camp moves to a different site every five or six days, ensuring that game drives constantly explore fresh areas. It is set up in secluded campsites in the game-rich wilderness of the Chobe National Park. With only five ensuite safari tents tucked in the shade of a dense forest deep in the pristine African bush, a maximum of ten guests revel in the total isolation of these private wilderness sites.

Whilst the camp itself offers up close and personal encounters with Botswana’s wildlife you can also explore the area on game drives and boat cruises along the Chobe River. Renowned as one of the top wilderness reserves in the world, Chobe National Park is home to the largest concentration of elephant on the African continent. Chobe also boasts two antelopes rarely encountered elsewhere in Botswana - the puku and the Chobe bushbuck. Both the puku and the bushbuck have a number of predators to contend with, from lion, hyena and leopard, to African wild dog, civet and caracal.

Day 7 - 9:

After your morning activity and brunch you will be transferred to Kasane Airport for your short light aircraft flight to the famous Okavango Delta and to Sandibe Okavango Lodge. The Lodge is set in a private concession of 8 000 hectares (19 800 acres) on the southeastern border of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve, in one of the most unique regions in the world, the Okavango Delta. It is particularly renowned for its lush waterways and abundant wildlife, and is home to a number of aquatic and land species. Predators from the adjacent Moremi, renowned for its wildlife sightings, often cross into the Sandibe concession.

During your stay in this area experience the Delta from a game drive vehicle (day and night), on foot or in a mokoro (dug out canoe) which glides through the reeds in the shallow waterways.

Day 10:
This morning after your morning activity and brunch you will be transferred back to the airstrip for your short light aircraft transfer to Maun where your journey will end.

Holiday to Zambia, South Africa and Botswana during October 2011

Botswana Review

Wonderful safari, we saw more than I ever anticipated. I'm glad it's quality and not quantity in Botswana, we only ever encountered a few other safari vehicles per day.
