Okavango & Victoria Falls Explorer - 8 nights

This 8 night sample itinerary encompasses a two night stay at Victoria Falls followed by an exciting safari in the Chobe National Park and the Okavango Delta. There a number of different ways to travel around Botswana and the following is an example of how to do a week on safari in the country taking in two of its best game viewing areas, Chobe and the Okavango Delta. An additional couple of days on a desert experience in the Kalahari or Makagadikgadi can add even more variety to this safari. This safari can very easily be tailored to better suit your own personal requirements, simply chat to one of Mahlatini's travel experts who will best advise you of your options. In many cases guests like the idea of a twin centre holiday combining the safari in Botswana with a beach holiday in KwaZulu Natal in South Africa, Mozambique or Mauritius or enjoy a city break in Cape Town. What you choose is dependent on season, how much time you have on your hands and of course your budget.

Day 1 & 2:

On arrival in Livingstone Zambia after clearing customs you will be met and transferred by road to David Livingstone Lodge.

Livingstone is the home of the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park or Smoke that Thunders National Park and the famous Victoria Falls. Enjoy your next two days taking in the falls, and enjoying boat cruises up the mighty Zambezi. Perhaps take in a helicopter ride or for the more adventurous there is white water rafting, horse riding or even bungi jumping!

Day 3 - 5:

This morning after breakfast you will be met and transferred by road and boat taking approximately an hour and a half to Chobe Safari Lodge all the while you will be hosted and assisted through the immigration facilities. This is a fascinating opportunity to experience closely the marvel of the rivers, geographical mysteries and cultural heritage of this diverse area. Chobe National Park contains the world's largest concentration of elephants and offers the world's best game viewing by boat. A gentle cruise down the Chobe River is truly a highlight, and the best way to view both the elephants and a host of other game coming down to drink from the river's edge. Spend the next three nights enjoying all that the lodge has to offer.

Day 6 - 8:

After your morning activity and breakfast you will be transferred to the Kasane Airport for your flight bound for the Okavango Delta and Pom Pom Camp. The Camp is located on Pom Pom Island in a private concession situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta and on the head waters of the Xudum river system. The area lies on the western boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve and offers superb Okavango scenery and a true Okavango wilderness experience. Spend the next 3 days participating in the activities on offer at the camp from mokoro trips, to game drives, walking, and boat cruises.

Day 9:

This morning after your morning activity and brunch you will be transferred back to the airstrip for your short light aircraft transfer to Maun for your flight to Johannesburg and onwards home.

Holiday to Botswana and Zimbabwe during May 2011

Botswana Review

Loved Botswana. Its a country that really seems to have its act together. They have made conscious decisions to maintain their environment and from our little exposure it seems that the government has been able to avoid much of the corruption and inefficiencies of many other African countries.
