Safari and Beach Honeymoon

Hi Sarah,

I can't believe it is all over now and we are back in the rain! We had a great wedding and honeymoon. Everything went as planned.

There were no problems at any airports and all flights were on time. The transfers were great, although the driver on the way back to kruger airport from arathusa was a bit mad, we were glad to reach it alive! Scarey driving but a nice enough guy!

I can't say anything bad about Arathusa. The accomodation, food and staff were all very nice. I know it was my first safari experience but I thought that the games drives were brilliant. The tracker and rangers were excellent and we saw the big 5 and more on several occassions.

I wasn't very keen on the airport grand hotel, it was just ok but I know it fitted into my budget.

Mauritius was very nice. Again everything was good here. The mauritours transfers to and from the airport were excellent and we went on a day trip with them to one of the islands. This was brilliant. The Paul and Virginie itself was nice, maybe the rooms are slightly dated now but they were clean and well maintained. The pool areas were nice and they had plently of activities to participate in. The service here was very good. The spa very lovely and we were given a free couples massage.

We hired a car for 3 days and did some touring ourselves. Sometimes the signposts were not very good but we managed to find our way around well. We also used the buses one day - they are very cheap and an experience not to be missed!!

All in all everything was good and we had a great time.

October Honeymoon South Africa and Mauritius

The hotels in South Africa and Mauritius were all of a very high standard. Cape Riviera (Cape Town) was beautiful and well-located, with superb service from the wonderful Malie. River Manor (Stellenbosch) was another lovely hotel. The owner, Nick, treated us very well and we enjoyed visiting the vineyards and tasting the wonderful wine. We also really enjoyed our stay at the Hideaway Guesthouse (Knysna) – Cecil and Colleen were excellent hosts and had plenty of useful suggestions for restaurants, activities etc. Words cannot do justice to the fantastic Safari Lodge (but I'll try anyway) – beautiful décor, brilliant staff, delicious food and a great safari experience (Scott saw all of the Big Five – sadly I managed only 4!). This was a real highlight for both of us. Le Mauricia was exactly what we needed from a hotel in Mauritius – a lovely end to the holiday.

The car hire was completely trouble-free. Transfers were generally smooth. There was a long delay leaving Johannesburg airport (caused by a thunder storm) and, on arrival in Mauritius, our driver had left without us. But the Mauritours rep was very helpful and found us a new driver. We had more weather trouble leaving Mauritius (a monsoon) which meant a lengthy delay and an extra night in a hotel.

The service from Mahlatini was absolutely faultless from start to finish.

Laura was very knowledgeable about the places we wanted to visit, and came up with a honeymoon that ticked all the boxes for us. She was extremely responsive to any questions we had, and always put our minds at ease when we were worrying about something (which was quite often!). She was great to deal with.

The website is very clear and helpful. The pre-departure information was also useful and clearly well-researched.

We heard from our guests who contributed to the honeymoney resource that Lindsay and the Mahlatini staff were extremely helpful.

While this was obviously an expensive holiday, the cost compared favourably to quotes we received elsewhere and so I believe we received very good value-for-money.

Kruger Safari and Mauritius Honeymoon

Flights – these were fine, however on the way out we didn’t know that we could check-in online 24 hours before hand, so when it came to checking in, there were only about 10 seats left, none of which were next to each other! However all was fine, as another passenger agreed to move so that we could sit next to each other. The flight from J’burg to Kruger was fun (and loved the airport at Phalaborwa!!) Unfortunately, we were delayed by 22 hours on the way back from Mauritius to London due to bad weather. Obviously the bad weather can’t be blamed on anyone, it just put a slight dampener on our holiday as we had things planned for when we got back!!

Transfers – all very good and efficient and we had no problems at all

Accommodation Pondoro was amazing!!!!! The staff there were all lovely and they all knew our names before we’d even introduced ourselves!! They weren’t aware that it was our honeymoon until we arrived but whilst we were out on our first game drive they decorated our bed with rose petals and left us some champagne as well. They also went to amazing effort to give us an amazing last romantic meal on our last evening there. They even gave us a packed breakfast to take away with us the next morning!! I wouldn’t hesitate in returning there and would definitely recommend to friends
Les Pavillons was also very nice and no real complaints – they even upgraded us to a Prestige Junior room!! The only negative comment I have is that the drinks were way too expensive and actually impacted our overall enjoyment as we felt we couldn’t justify paying those prices all the time!! We got round it to some extent by buying some rum at the airport and also some wine on one of our shopping drinks but then we had to stay in our room and drink it!!

Overall service could not be faulted though!!

Comments on Mahlatini's Service:

Knowledge – very knowledgeable on all aspects of our honeymoon and the various options presented to us – it certainly made it easier for us to come to a decision.

Efficiency – all queries were dealt with very efficiently and all invoices and itineraries were delivered as promised.

Service – very impressed with overall service

Value – I have to say that the value is probably in line with other companies that we looked at initially, but the personal service certainly makes a difference!!

One week in South Africa and one week in Mauritius

o Recommendation to book flights using the booking deposit was a very good idea – certainly given the rising cost of oil at the time. We appreciated the foresight from Mahlatini in this regard in an effort to save us money.
o All accommodation was of the highest quality. Jatinga was exactly the way it was described and, despite not having us booked in on our arrival, were more than happy to accommodate us in the honeymoon sweet for the night. Kirkman’s Kamp was spectacular. We met people who’d been on safari in Namibia and Botswana and they maintained that the safari in Kirkman’s was by far the best they’d experienced. I would have to agree that it was superb game viewing. Legends in Mauritius was high quality as described, with the room in Legends being very unique in design. The only issue with Legends was the cost of the drinks and food if you did not go all inclusive. I felt it was very expensive. Not having to tip due to providing an overall tip at the end of the stay was a great approach.
o Transfers were fine and were there on time.
o Service: Jatinga service was very good, with the staff being polite and obliging. Kirkman’s Kamp staff were absolutely superb. They were helpful, genuine and very friendly and made our stay there incrediblt pleasant and memorable. Legends staff were very polite and good overall – being particularly prompt in their servive.
o The overall knowledge of Mahlatini staff was very good. It is always comforting to talk to people who have actually been to the locations/resorts and Mahlatini need to ensure as many of their staff as possible have first hand experience of the countries, activities and resorts. The first hand experience is a big comfort to potential customers.
o The staff are also very good in listening and understanding what you are looking for from your trip. The proactiveness of suggestions and honesty regarding the pros and cons of each country and resort was a welcome change to the attitude of many travel companies.
o My dealings with all staff were pleasant and extremely efficient in terms of one to one contact and responding to correspondence.

Cape Town, Winelands, Garden Route and Eastern Cape Safari

The trip was fantastic in every respect and everything you promised it would be! Margaret and I would like to express our grateful thanks to you for such a splendid itinerary and your advice and guidance throughout-there was nothing to fault. Only the weather, over which you had no control; but arriving to 42 degrees was too much.

However, using your questionnaire as a guide.

Flights.

SAA.- The food was good for flight fare. The staff were courteous and helpful,

Accommodation.

Cape Riviera, Cape Town. Quiet, elegant location. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Staff extremely helpful and knowledgeable on local matters. Exquisite surroundings; food very good particularly breakfast.

Recommend Restaurant Panama Jack on the Docks. don't be put off by the location -a shed set amongst a mountain of containers!! Inside is a transformation and the food is a heaven for those who enjoy fish and sushi.

River Manor, Stellenbosch. A reminder of Colonial elegance-rooms very comfortable; staff very friendly and efficient. Superb range of organic and home made foods for breakfast and snacks. Ideally situated for walking into the Town that has so much character and places of interest.

Recommend eating at the Volkskombuis-stunning scenery and excellent local home cooking.

La Plume, Oudtshoorn.-beautiful/sumptuous accommodation-treated like dignitaries. The scenery was spectacular and the meals were splendid; the ostrich steak was perfect! The Cango Caves and the Wildlife Ranch were impressive and so special.

The Hideaway, Knysna.-the situation of the accommodation was idyllic and our room with verandah had uninterrupted views across the lagoon to the point and beyond. The hosts were wonderful - very knowledgeable and extremely helpful; we even had boerswurst for breakfast! Easy walk into the town or the waterfront. A number of excellent Restaurants but recommend the 'Firefly'. Visit it during the day and outside you are confronted with a bright red corrugated tin shed. At night and inside it is transformed-a great atmosphere with the Owner and her daughter producing some of the most mouth watering dishes imaginable; specialising in fresh herbs and spices from all over the World.

Disappointed there was no Outenique Choo-Tjoe from Knysna as the spring tides washed away the tracks at Knysna a couple of years ago and there are insufficient funds for repairs. The train now only leaves to and from George.

Amakhala Woodbury Lodge. Margaret's comment-'What an amazing way to finish a most wonderful trip'. The Lodge was very well equipped, comfortable with extensive views over the Game Park. The food was excellent and the staff very professional and accommodating. Impressed that the Wardens being so young were extremely knowledgeable, mature in attitude and have an obvious love and care for the wildlife. The drives were awesome and we were privileged to see most of the animals.

Transfers. The flight from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town was straightforward and the in-flight attendance was good.

Service whilst away. Cannot fault any aspect of the service; all were very efficient and slick.

Service of Mahlatini. We cannot praise Mahlatini and particularly Laura Pattinson enough for the efficiency of the planning and arranging this trip of a lifetime. Mahlatini were recommended to us when we were already in discussions with a Company in Cape Town to arrange a bespoke holiday, but they were being rather tardy so we approached Mahlatini. Their response was totally different, within 24 hours ideas were flowing; questions were answered; changes were not challenged but effected immediately as a result of which we experienced a most wonderful memorable trip to a spectacular country.

The brochures prepared beforehand were excellent, detailed, informative, with many coloured photographs; but primarily they were personalised making them particularly 'special'. So much so that my wife is keeping them as part of the memorabilia of the trip.

We cannot praise Laura and Mahlatini highly enough and would recommend them to anyone seeking a quality trip to Africa. From both of us many thanks for a superb, trouble -free value for money trip of a lifetime!!

How can we improve.- Difficult to identify any improvements. Just maintain the same level of standards and quality in the future. There are a number of Travel Agents and Organisations who could learn a great deal from the standards of service and quality of personal attendance provided by Mahlatini. May you continue to go from strength to strength.

With the Football World Cup taking place in South Africa in 2010 any sensible person intending to attend would be well advised to seriously consider approaching Mahlatini to make their arrangements so as to enjoy a troublefree occasion-the quality of service cannot be faulted!

South Africa & Mauritius Honeymoon

The whole trip went very smoothly from start to finish. All flights we on time and our transfers were always waiting for us on arrival, with very knowledgeable drivers who gave us some great information and stories about the area during the transfers.

The accommodation throughout the trip was first class, especially at Kirkmans Kamp, which we felt as a whole was outstanding. The staff were superb and could not do enough for us. The food and accommodation was lovely and the safari drives were just amazing. The game wardens who took us out on our drives really made the trip, they were just excellent and had such an incredible knowledge of the wildlife/ environment and were superb at tracking down the animals.

Jatinga Lodge was really idyllic and ideal for some peace, quiet and relaxation. The food and service again was very impressive and we were very well looked after. The afternoon tea and scones were particularly lovely!

The Belle Mare Plage was just heaven. The main restaurant, which was included in the half board, catered for every type of food you could want and despite being a buffet had outstanding food, much of which could be cook right in front of you. We also went to the lobster evening at their La Spiaggia restaurant and we both thought it was the best meal we have ever had! Our room was lovely and the staff very accommodating.

We met another couple whilst away who were also doing South Africa and were then at the Belle Mare Plage with us and they were quite impressed at how well organised our trip had been, as they had booked through another operator and had had quite a few problems along the way.

Laura did a fantastic job at organising our honeymoon for us. She was very efficient at every stage along the planning and was always very quick at replying to queries or was at the end of the phone to help with absolutely anything.

She was very knowledgeable of the area and obviously very experienced at planning these types of trips. Her recommendation to stay at Jatinga Country Lodge on our first night after arriving in South Africa was very well made, as we were in much need of some relaxation after our wedding and a lot of travelling before heading to Kruger for our Safari.

The service we received as a whole from the company was excellent and we would be more that happy recommend you to any of our friends and family. We hope to be able to use you again in the future for any other trips.

Thanks.

10 Day Uganda Gorlla Trekking Holiday

I can truly say we had no problems with any flights, accommodation, transfers or service while we were away, in fact the service was great, all staff were very friendly and efficient nothing was too much trouble. Our drivers/guides were excellent, careful and very aware of our comfort on the bumpy roads.

I especially would like to thank Ismail Katamba, our second driver, he entertained us throughout and he was very knowledgeable about his country and the wildlife and if anyone is particularly interested in birds they should mention it before they go as he would have brought bird sound tracks with him to help identify them.

As I mentioned to you on the phone when our first driver was taken ill we did have a problem not knowing what was happening for 8 hours but this did not spoil our holiday even though it did mean we did not get to look round Bwindi village. Illness is something that can happen to anyone and we only hope he keeps well in the future.

I always enjoyed our chats on the phone regarding our holiday it was like talking to friends and was great that we were called by our Christian names instead of Mr and Mrs Neale it made us feel important as opposed to just another customer. Whenever we had any queries they were always answered quickly and effectively. We had a great holiday and thought it was good value for money to be spoilt in such a way.

We would have liked to have had longer at Ishasha. Wilderness Camp The Site had much wildlife around it and it would have been great to spend a little more time there.
The managers of the site had only been there a few months but made you feel very welcome and were very informative about the area and animals.

At the Boma Guest House where we spent the whole day as out flight was not until night time it would have been nice to have been offered a trip to the Botanical Gardens or zoo for instance. We did not know about these places until it was too late.

South Africa and Mauritius Honeymoon

The honeymoon…. Absolutely fantastic, better than I thought it ever could be.

Cape town - The Highlight here was Kensington place:

  1. Service, food and general vibe of this place was simply the best we could have ever hoped for. The team at this hotel really know how to make you feel at home and treat you like someone special.
  2. The food and wine, we knew going to South Africa would be a gastronomic adventure but we were not ready for the shear quality of food and service. My personal favorite was Five Flies, where we had a private dining in a candle light wine cellar… fantastic!!!!!
  3. The wine….. we had a driver for one day take us all around stellenbousch (apologies if that’s spelt wrong….) We first went to Spier where the wine was very good, one of the highlights here was getting up close and personal with a 4 year old Cheetah in a sanctuary at the farm. Then on to nettlenghoff (again with the spelling J ) where we enjoyed more extraordinary wine. We also went to a brandy farm called Van Ryn, which I would strongly recommend to you and your clients. Very professional and you get 3 brandies.
  4. Food, glorious food!!

Exeter lodge – in the Sabi sands:
Oh my GOD. This place is simply amazing…. We got the big five and the weather was just great for us while we were there.
Our tracker and driver were such a great team and very entertaining and knowledgeable. The entire experience here was one we will have for life. From our butler Christopher to dining under a tree at lunch time, to the private dining experience prepared for us…. It really was magical.

Eileen’s birthday occurred while we were here and they provided here with a “Happy Birthday” sing song and a huge Chocolate cake. This place is somewhere we will deffo be going back to…. cant say enough about how good it was for us. This was definitely the Highlight, without question….

I would have no reservations about recommending you guys to friends (we have done already)… Flights, transfers , accommodation everything went according to plan … everything. You really did a superb job planning the entire event and we are very grateful.

Feedback on Service provided by Laura

Knowledge – Very good knowledge of the destinations and what to do there, activity options clearly listed on itinerary. She sent photos of herself on a similar trip which was nice. No travel agent in our area of the U.S. was familiar w/ a Cape Town/ Kruger / Beach trip – they thought it was a strange request, but Laura knew EXACTLY what we wanted right away.
Efficiency – Very efficient and timely planning. We received our booking package and liked the way everything is laid out as a “voucher”. Would have liked a bit better map for Cape Town as driving was confusing, and the copy in the package was hard to see the roads.
Service – Laura was very pleasant, helpful and easy to communicate with.
Value – Great value, which is the reason we chose to book the trip outside our own country, as we saved money using Mahlatini.

Suprised by the Intercontinental Johannesburg

INTERCONTINENTAL, J’BURG – Outstanding service. Surprised that an airport hotel could be so nice. Luxurious room with flowers, champagne, spa gifts, cappuccino machine, etc. which was a nice welcome back to civilization from the camp/outdoor shower experience. Great amenities. Staff took our Iphone to charge for us, free. They recommended activities for us which worked out well (Casino and tourist market). They even held our excess baggage while we were in Mauritius. They also helped us research shipping methods/prices and packaged our 8foot tall giraffe to take on the plane with us. Also let us relax there during our 7 hour layover between Mauritius and NYC flights. They really go above and beyond and seem to enjoy doing so. If we ever visit J’burg again we would definitely stay here.

Into the unknown in Uganda

I thought that your service was excellent, the help efficiency and service from Laura was fantastic and I would certainly use you again. Laura was very very helpful and always efficient in getting back to me if she was unsure of anything. The way the trip was presented was also excellent.
It was very very beneficial that we were able to talk to Sarah before we went on the trip as she had experienced it before as you can imagine it was not an every day holiday and therefore there were lots of questions that we wanted to ask before we went which having someone with first hand experience was excellent. Good tip by the way about taking pens for the kids they went down a treat.
The trip itself was not cheap however for a once in a lifetime experience it was definitely worth it and the service we received when we got there was great too as you are always concerned going into the unknown.
Thank you so much for all your hard work, help and arrangements it really was a fantastic service that you provided so Thank you Laura, and also to Sarah for all the chats on the phone and putting our minds at ease.

Honeymoon to South Africa & Mauritius

Laura was very helpful in planning this for us. I gave her a budget and I was very happy of the holiday she put together with that budget as it was great value for money. I swamped her with questions every day and she came back to me immediately with the answers. 20 Degrees South in Mauritus was the highlight. Laura sent me some pictures of the room but seeing it in person just blew both myself and my new wife away. It was amazing and Laura definitely found us the best place to stay on the island.

From my experience dealing with you, I don’t think you can improve your product or service. I got a great holiday at a great price, your staff, in particular Laura was more than helpful, your website is very informative and looks great and we were really happy with what we got.

Honeymoon to South Africa & Mauritius

The trip was fantastic. I really cannot fault it. Everything was planned to perfection. The only thing that went wrong which was the fault of British Airways and not Mahlatini was that there was a problem with the airplane on our last flight home from Mauritius to Heathrow and we were left on the runway for 6 hours before being told that we would have to stay another night in Mauritius. Having said that, we were put up in a 4 star hotel and the food was really good. The accommodation that was booked for us really could not have been better. The lady that owned the hotel in Cape Town was one of the most helpful people I have ever come across. The lodge in Woodbury was really nice, up high and overlooking the game reserve. Best of all was the accommodation in Mauritius. They even had a nespresso machine in the room!! The service by everyone was also flawless. I really believe that we got the best deal in booking with Mahlatini and I am so glad that I didn’t choose any other travel agent. I would highly recommend you guys to anyone that I know who will be travelling to Africa.

Tanzania and Zanzibar Family Holiday

We are back today and thought I would drop you a line. So much to say but in a word it was 'Fantastic !' First the lodges at which we stayed both in the Tarangire and the Serengeti were just superb. We have been before many times and these lived up to the best. We expected great things from Swala having been before but it has just been upgraded, ie. built again as new without losing any of its almost unique ’complete quiet luxury safari’ experience that we so enjoyed before. Every thing was just perfect from the game drives, to the food, to the service. Mabalageti was also great; better facilities, if you want that, which suited our daughter and the best view of any lodge in Tanzania. The food was every bit as good as Swala.

As for the accomodation for our week in Zanzibar to recover from a week of safari. The Shooting Star was small, which was just what we wanted, good food a fantastic view of the whole beach from the pool with great water sports near by. Did little but enjoy the sun, chill out, eat well and drink great cocktails. Not the hotel for those who want to party late into the night but again perfect in every regard for us.

Finally to the safari and Predators ’the local partner’. In short they did a great and very professional job. The 4 of us had the best toyota long wheel capable of seating 8. Our driver frank was an experienced and extremely knowlegable driver. There was no set routine, and no mileage limitations imposed. The result was we saw as much if not more game and bird life on this safari as any we have been on before.

So in conclusion Laura, thanks to you and Mahlatini we had the most memorable holiday and we sent my daughter and her husband back to Germany in awe of the whole experience. Well done and thank you.

We will be back to you in 2011 for what I hope will be a trip to the Southern Circuit in tanzania. We would not go anywhere else.

We had an amazing trip! Everything went pretty much as planned and couldn’t have been better. It was definitely the holiday I’ve always hoped for. Safari was great. We got to see all the animals we wanted to and were amazed how close we got. The weather was perfect and the areas we travelled through were beautiful, especially the view looking down into the Ngorongoro crater. We were very impressed with our guide and cook too. They looked after us very well and made sure we got the most out of our experience. We had such a lovely holiday and we’re so impressed with the service you gave us.
