Amboseli National Park

Amboseli means 'salty dust' in Maasai, the dust being volcanic ash from eruptions of nearby Mount Kilimanjaro. Amoboseli is the perfect location to capture those quintessential images and memories of Africa – elephants and lions crossing the plains, cheetah sprinting across great expanses of sparse wilderness, vibrant birdsong in lush acacia forests, and the ever-changing natural light playing on the snow-capped peak. It's a fine park to observe elephants closely as they are very relaxed and well used to people.
In spite of its name and largely arid appearance, Amboseli has a permanent water supply; the melting snow from the cap of Kilimanjaro. The clear springs flow through the park, ensuring a high population of game year-round. This is one of the few parks in Africa where you can see gerenuks (giraffe gazelle). Birdlife here is prolific with 425 recorded species and November is a particularly good time to observe Amboseli's full complement of bird species.
This is excellent walking country and many of the lodges and camps can arrange guided walking safaris.
