Amboseli National Park
Contact one of the experts at Mahlatini to help you plan your trip of a lifetime to Kenya.
Amboseli National Park is situated between the Kenyan and Tanzanian border, its name is derived from the “salty dust”- volcanic ash- which lingers in the air after eruptions from the neighbouring Mount Kilimanjaro.. The environment it produces provides an excellent home for lions, elephants and cheetah as well as an illustrious habitat for birdlife. Your memories of Amboseli will surpass all others in terms of vistas and sightings of various wildlife and animals against the backdrop of a snow capped peak. Here you will have the chance of a lifetime to observe elephants up close due to their well-adjusted behaviour towards people.
Although Amboseli has a dry and dusty atmosphere on first look, it will surprise explorers with the lush green plant life and appears more savannah like than desert with its landscape varying on season basis. The trickle and flow of springs can be found throughout the park, sourced from the melting snow cap of Kilimanjaro, they draw a large number of game throughout the year. You will be delighted with sights of the rare and majestic gerenuks - or giraffe gazelle and have an excellent promise of spotting many of the 425 bird species which reside within the park most of the year round. If bird watching is your main interest November is truly breath-taking as the bird species are in full flight at this time.
Amboseli is perfect for those wishing to take part in walking safaris as the majority of camps and lodges will have the facility to arrange a guided walk.
