The Mukogodo Maasai and Samburu people can be found inhabiting Laikipia Plateau – central Kenya and displays the ethnic diversity between communities that are sprawled across the forests and valleys.
Laikipia Plateau has been sustained by these indigenous tribes which have come together with ranchers and settlers to create a fabulous haven of two million acres which is home to a range of amazing game within the savannah atmosphere.
This diverse landscape has been moulded by the Ewaso Nyiro and Ewaso Narok rivers and attracts a stream of tourists into a wealth of traditional resources such as livestock and wheat farming along with wildlife conservation.
The Sanctuaries of Solio, Lewa, Ol Jogi, Ol Pejeta and Ol Ari Nyiro harbour fugitives of extinction such as Kenya’s black Rhino as it offers the protection that many other areas of East Africa cannot provide for such endangered mammals.
The plains game is plentiful in this central area of Kenya as lions, leopards, wild dogs and cheetah can all be observed hunting the abundance of impala, gazelle, reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich, Beisa Oryx (endemic to the north of Kenya) and gerenuk. Laikipia is also well known as the only conservation where explorers can spot Jackson’s Hartebeest along with the huge herds of elephants.
