Day 1:
Once the family as arrived into Nairobi’s International Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Nairobi for the evening. Depending on the time of your arrival you may have time to explore the city and its attractions. Most recommended are the Karen Blixen Museum (author of Out of Africa), the giraffe sanctuary, Nairobi National Park, a city tour and the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. We also recommend lunch or dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant where all manner of exotic meat is served roasted on traditional Maasai swords over a huge charcoal pit.
Day 2 - 4:
Enjoy an early morning breakfast in the company of the endangered Rothschild Giraffes before transferring to Wilson Airport for a scheduled flight to Samburu Airstrip (in Buffalo Springs Reserve). Here, you will be met and transferred by road for an hour and a half. Arrive at Sasaab late morning.
During your stay you can participate on morning and afternoon game drives on open vehicles where a wide variety of game can be seen. You can also arrange all day game drives or half day game drives with a delicious picnic to enjoy in the middle of the bush. Samburu is the home of the ‘Samburu Special Five’, which includes the Beisa Oryx, Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Gerenuk & Somali Ostrich. Abundant birdlife and fauna along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro offer great game viewing either by foot, vehicle or on a camel. Sasaab’s position high on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro means that it is the perfect place to sit and watch game. Elephants frequently come to the opposite bank. Other activities include: guided walks, bird watching, star gazing, swimming pool, internet access. Sasaab is very closely linked to the local Samburu tribes and it is highly recommended to go on a cultural trip to the local village to meet and understand the welcoming and hard working Samburu way of life.
Day 5 - 7:
Depart Sasaab early for a game drive and bush breakfast to Buffalo Spring. Connect with a flight to the Masai Mara. At Keekorok Airstrip, you will be met by a guide from Sala’s Camp and enjoy a game drive to Sala’s for lunch.
Activities are entirely up to guests themselves, but in this area of prolific big five wildlife sighting, early game drives are recommended to witness predators seeking out their prey, and late afternoon drives when the light is at its softest. During the world-famous annual Migration of wildebeest which takes place annually from July – September, guests may opt for a full day game drive to a crossing point, taking a picnic lunch with them. Sala’s location on the confluence of the Sand and Keekorok rivers mean that it is a true haven for birdlife. Star gazing is also a great treat in this area of clear skies and no light pollution.
Day 8 - 14:
Transfer onto a flight to Nairobi and onwards to Lamu. On arrival in Lamu guests are met by a boat from Kizingoni and are transferred about 40 minutes from the Lamu airstrip across to Kizingoni Beach. Kizingoni beach is a selection of 6 private houses, all right on the beach, each with 4+ double bedrooms, their own swimming pools, fully staffed and hosted and have a private speedboat and captain.
Kizingoni Beach is a holiday destination with endless opportunities for adventure, sport and pleasure. Many visitors are happy to enjoy the peace and excellent service, with the occasional massage — others take full advantage of the many activities there are on offer including excursions, water sports, boat safaris, sailing, fishing, swimming, walking, mainland safaris and many more.
Day 15:
Flight back to Nairobi for your international flight.
