I will never forget floating over the Masai Mara in a hot air balloon observing the wildebeest herds below, it was my 'Out of Africa' fantasy come true.

The capital city of Kenya is a city of huge contrasts, with the wealthiest citizens living in Western-style luxury just meters from unskilled workers who earn less than US$1 per day. It's a humbling experience and should bring home to you the vast economic divide between Africa and the West. In contrast to the clean, tidy and pleasant central commercial and international business district, the more interesting River Road area (just a block away from the centre) displays streets that are abuzz with energy, opportunism and aspiration where people from all walks of life who mingle with travelers from all over the world.

This is a cosmopolitan place, home to a multiracial society. The cool weather conditions with little or no extremes are envied all over the world. Nairobi is a major urban centre that is unique with numerous wildlife animal parks on its doorstep. When visiting Nairobi the following would be attractions worth seeing: Karen Blixen Museum, Giraffe Sanctuary, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and Nairobi National Park. This park lies 10km outside Nairobi City. Over 100 species of mammals and 400 species of bird have been recorded in the park. It is amazing that all this can be seen within sight of the skyscrapers and the international airport. Four of the Big Five are found within the park – leopard, lion, buffalo and rhino, but no elephant.
