A Leisurely Sojourn by Luxury Train from Victoria Falls to Cape Town

Set out from the incredible departure point of Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls and arrive in the splendour of Cape Town following a six-day voyage on a luxurious train. Included is one night’s quality accommodation in a Pretoria hotel with transfers to and from Rovos Rails private station in Capital Park taken care of, with transfers to and from Rovos Rail's private station in Capital Park. Off-train excursions during the journey includes an overnight stay in a Pretoria hotel, a tour of the historical mining town of Kimberley and a stop in the quaint Victorian village of Matjiesfontein before journey's end in Cape Town.

The train journey departs on a Sunday from the Victoria Falls and heads in a south-easterly direction towards Bulawayo. Border formalities will take place at both Plumtree and Mafikeng as the train heads for South Africa via Zimbabwe and Botswana. We arrive in Pretoria at 17h00 on Tuesday where you will be introduced to our beautifully appointed station and 56 acre property. Transfer to your hotel for overnight. You may participate in an optional tour of the city or have the morning at leisure before rejoining the train at 15h00 on Wednesday.

The adventure continues on Thursday where we disembark in Kimberley for a guided tour of the world's largest man-made excavation, the 'Big Hole' and it's supporting Mine Museum. Splash out & buy a diamond at source! Next stop will be at Matjiesfontein on Friday morning. Your tour of this historic village may include a visit to the impressive museum on the platform, the motorcar and railway carriage museum, or a wander through the Lord Milner Hotel and its delightful grounds.

Enjoy the spectacular mountain ranges and scenic wine lands of the Cape as we head towards the Mother City of South Africa, Cape Town, cradled by the imposing bulk of Table Mountain, Devils' Peak and Lions Head.

Sunday

  • 10h00 The train departs Victoria Falls Train Station.
  • 13h00 Lunch is served in the dining car/s.
  • 19h30 Dinner is served in the dining car/s.

Monday

  • 07h00 Breakfast served in the dining car/s.
  • 13h00 Lunch is served in the dining car/s.
  • 19h30 Dinner is served as the train heads towards Lobatse.
  • 23h00 The train arrives at Mafikeng for border formalities.

Tuesday

  • 07h00 Breakfast served in the dining car/s.
  • 13h00 Lunch is served in the dining car/s.
  • 16h00 A short stop at Centurion where the Rovos steam engines take over the haulage of the train.
  • 17h00 The train arrives at journey's end, the gracious Capital Park Train Station in Pretoria. Transfer to hotel for overnight.

Wednesday

  • Tours of Pretoria and environs can be arranged on request.
  • 15h00 Depart Rovos Rail's private Capital Park Train Station aboard the Pride of Africa.

Thursday

  • 10h00 The train arrives in Kimberley. Passengers visit the Big Hole, the Diamond Museum and take a tram ride.
  • 12h30 The train departs from Kimberley and proceeds overnight via De Aar and Beaufort West for Matjiesfontein.

Friday

  • 08h15 Visit the historic village of Matjiesfontein.
  • 10h30 The train departs Matjiesfontein and proceeds via Touws River, De Doorns and Worcester to Cape Town.
  • 18h00 the train arrives in Cape Town Train Station, Platform 24.
