Club Makokola, Malawi


Club Makokola Hotel is situated on the southern shores of Lake Malawi. It is set out in ten acres of immaculate gardens with a large beachfront. It has recently been refurbished and is impressively built and situated. It is a large resort style hotel offering a large variety of activities. Guests may like a week- long stay, usually at the end of a safari where relaxation is the main object. Otherwise Club Makokola / Danforth or Mumbo and Domwe Islands are easily linked with Ku Chawe Inn or Lujeri and Mvuu Lodge and Camp to give you 3 easily accessible and very different destinations in Malawi.

Location

>Club Makokola is a 45 min flight from Lilongwe and 20 min flight from Mvuu Lodge. Flights are to Club Makokola airstrip followed by a 10 minutes vehicle transfer. It is an approximately 4 hour drive from Lilongwe, 3.5 hours from Blantyre and 2 hours from Mvuu Lodge.

Highlights

  • The Mlambe Golf Club is a 9-hole, 3 par course, beautifully sited adjacent to the hotel in a grove of Boabab trees. With spectacular water hazards it provides both experienced and amateur golfers with a challenging and enjoyable course.
  • The M.V. Sunbird is a 22 meter cruiser equipped with bar, kitchen, sundeck and toilets. It can accommodate 20 passengers for a day cruises or can sleep up to 8. If more want to sleep they can sleep on deck and staff will hang mosquito nets.
  • Travelling between Mvuu and Club Makokola on the Sunbird is a great experience. Sailing to Mvuu Camp in Liwonde National Park takes around 6 hours. Lunch is included and there is a cash bar. The journey takes you down through the southern arm of the Lake Malawi into the Shire River past the historical town of Mangochi, through Lake Malombe into the Shire River and the National Park. The upper sundeck provides an excellent opportunity for game viewing over the reed banks into the park.

Club Makokola offers 20 superior rooms, 9 junior suites and 1 executive suite. Of the superior rooms 5 are family rooms. The suites have a separate lounge area with fridge and the executive suite comprises 2 separate wings with 2 bedrooms and a communal lounge.
