Chelinda Camp, Malawi

Chelinda Camp is set on the edge of a large pine plantation and looks out onto the rolling grasslands of the high Nyika. Wilderness Safaris make use of these old National Park chalets on private tailor made safaris using their own custom made game drive vehicles and guides. Presently the camp consists of 6 basic rooms where accommodation is offered on a full board basis and 4 chalets offered on a self catering basis. This accommodation is built around a dam and surrounded on 3 sides by Chelinda Pine Plantation. The climate is always cool due to the altitude and night time temperatures particularly in the winter months can be very chilly. Only one chalet per couple will be booked unless there is a family group wanting to share. Wilderness Safaris will supply their own chef and guarantee excellent food throughout and will also use Wilderness Safaris toiletries.

Location

Chelinda Camp is an 80 minute flight from Lilongwe and 40 min flight from Likoma Island and. The airstrip is a 20 min drive from the lodge.

Highlights

  • Game that can be spotted at the Nyika Plateau are Burchell's Zebra, Roan antelope, Common Reedbuck, Eland, Bushbuck, Warthog, and leopard.

Customer Review

Honeymoon to South Africa and Mauritius during August 2011

South Africa Review

We were only at the airport and game reserve - and that in itself was just amazing. We would like to see more of SA as the people that we came across seemed really nice, and the passion that they had for their animals, and the knowledge was fantastic. The whole of that trip was the highlight.
