Highlights
- During the dry season there are large herds of elephant and buffalo, impala, kudu, puku and warthog. Hippos are always present in the lake. Lion are also occasionally seen.
- Birding, particularly at the end of the dry season and during the early rains is exceptional with many water related species which are not easily seen elsewhere.
- Various places in Malawi boast isolated habitats for extremely rare birds and have become "musts" on all keen bird-watchers itineraries. The woodland around the northern entrance to Vwaza Marsh Game Reserve is the best spot in the country to get a truly very rare species, the White-winged babbling starling.
