Our Comments and Suggestions on choosing a Room Type:
The Prestige Rooms offer incredible value for money and if you are looking to enjoy the benefits of a 5 star hotel without paying a 5 star price, then these lovely modern rooms will be more than sufficient. They are situated in the older part of the hotel around the main pool and all are sea facing. The rooms come on various levels in a couple of different hotel blocks. The only disadvantage to some of the rooms is the proximity to the pool and if you are looking for a bit of peace and quiet then we would recommend that you take one of the junior suites instead.
The Junior Suites differ from the Prestige rooms in that they are larger rooms located away from the prestige rooms in the newer part of the hotel. They include a large terrace or balcony and a sofa bed and dining area. The bathrooms also have a walk-in dressing room and double vanities. Some are situated on the beach front and others slightly further back. When they say that they are sea facing this doesn’t always guarantee a ‘sea view’. This just means that you face the sea and ocean views could be obscured. Their situation is the advantage more so than the size in our opinion. They are over in a quieter area of the hotel around another pool.
The Deluxe Suites differ in that they have a separate living area. We prefer the junior suites, however, due to location. The deluxe suites are located in the main block of the hotel whereas the Junior Suites are scattered throughout the property so are quieter and more private.
The Villas are amazing! They offer separate check in facilities, a personal butler, in-house meals if required and a completely private pool and lounging area. The ground floor lounge is complete with TV/DVD/CD player, Play Station, Wii and WIFI so perfect for children or people wanting this to be a home away from home. We feel that the villas would most suit families of all shapes and sizes. The villas provide complete privacy but the guests are still able to enjoy all of the facilities and services of the Resort. Honeymooners will particularly love the private pool area and the personalised dining.

Restaurants & Bars
Our Comments and Suggestions on Dining at the Belle Mare Plage:
Our staff have eaten at not only the main buffet restaurant but La Spiaggia and the Blue Penny Cafe. La Spiaggia has a beautiful outdoor setting on the beach. While it has a relaxed feel to it the food is extremely sophisticated. On our visit we were served 7 light courses and every one of the courses was the epitome of French fine dining. You will probably only likely visit this restaurant once at the most, twice during a stay as it won’t be easy on the wallet. It is, however, definitely a treat and it will be a memorable night. Chris distinctly remembers the foie gras he had at The Blue Penny Cafe as the best he has ever tasted. He said the wide selection of wines was very impressive and loved the view to the pool. He and his wife Liane also had a meal at the Deer Hunter which they both thoroughly enjoyed.
In general the food in the Belle Mare Plage is top class and the service, typically Mauritian – always professional and given with a genuine smile. We do have many people comment on the price of drinks and food or they have read reviews on trip advisor before the trip. Our feeling is that it is a 5 star hotel and you are paying 5 star prices as you would in Europe. The quality of food is worth the price you pay in our opinion. Remember that drinks or cocktails bought in the bar are always served by an ever present waiter who will also provide you with wonderful bar snacks. Our advice is to plan ahead and budget for what you will be spending while you are out there. You are also paying for the service and general ambiance and in general at this hotel, you get exactly what you pay for.
Additional Information
The Belle Mare Plage offers 7 restaurants and 6 bars.
Citronnelle is the main restaurant which serves buffet breakfasts and dinners. It is overlooking the beach and the pool and offers a relaxed atmosphere with live-cooking.
The other restaurants provide a wide range of choice for lunches during the day and alternative dinners in the evenings. The restaurants range from casual beachside restaurants such as Indigo Beach and La Kaze to fine dining restaurants like the Blue Penny Cafe and La Spiaggia serving 'haute cuisine' in elegant surroundings. There are also 2 restaurants at the golf club houses offering not only lunch and dinner but also continental breakfasts for early tee offs.
Please note that when you eat outside of the main restaurant, unless specified, you are provided with a ‘credit’ towards the meal you are eating. The menus clearly indicate what would be at an additional cost. You will also need to pre book the a la carte restaurants during your stay.
The 6 bars are scattered around the bar and with the exception of the main Cocktail Bar are attached to the above mentioned restaurants. The main Cocktail Bar is situated in the main building with an indoor area and an outdoor wooden deck. There is also a dance floor and live entertainment every night.
Spa & Treatments
The Belle Mare Plage Fitness Centre features a fully equipped gymnasium also offering free facilities and activities including sauna, plunge pool, steam bath, 2 whirlpools and group lesions of aerobics, yoga and t’ai chi and aqua gym.
The Spa’s payable facilities include a hairdresser as well as massage and body treatments. Shiseido Qi beauty products are used.
Families
Constance Belle Mare Plage is the perfect hotel for families. Children receive a welcome present on arrival while the parents are presented with the new brochure "Travelling with children in Mauritius".
The Kakoo Club at Constance Belle Mare Plage is the place to be for children aged between 4 and 12 years old. This is where they make new friends, discover new adventures and enjoy a large variety of leisure activities under the supervision of a professional team.
Accommodation at Constance Belle Mare Plage, from the standard rooms to the suites and villas, is comprehensively equipped with quality amenities for babies and children such as cots, bathtubs and walkies-talkies as well as lots of toys!
The resort offers a 24-hour babysitting service (payable), high chairs and special menus for babies and children in the restaurants and car seats for excursions on the island.

The Kid’s Club
The "Kakoo Club" welcomes children aged from 4 to 12 years (open 09.00 - 21.00). Games room, heated pool and playground.
Indoor and outdoor activities are organised daily under the supervision of our trained staff. Eco-related activities and excursions are also proposed. Dinner in buffet style at the ‘Kakoo Club’ or in the main restaurant.
Baby and infant menus are available on request as well as a babysitting service (payable) and various baby articles (partially free of charge).
Hotel Facilities
The Belle Mare Plage hosts most of the usual facilities you would expect from a 5 star resort including a courtesy lounge, 4 swimming pools with sun loungers and parasols, a range of boutiques, car rental desks, laundry and dry cleaning, WIFI and a recreation counter for land and sea excursions.

Both of the courses at the Belle Mare Plage have been played by 3 of our staff members. The general consensus is that they are the best on the island.
The Legend Golf Course
'The Legend', the first of its kind in Mauritius, designed by South African champion, Hugh Baiocchi, is the crowning achievement of Constance Belle Mare Plage Resort, located along one of the most superb beaches on the island. Each of the 18 holes has distinctive characteristics. Superb fairways are laid in the heart of an indigenous forest, culminating in brand new greens, built to USPGA specifications. In an constant effort to provide the perfect golfing location, all 18 greens have been rebuilt using Tif Dwarf grasses to ensure a perfect surface. Time has also been taken to enhance the natural beauty of a site originally used to breed deer. Teeing off from the 17th hole (par 3) is a feast for the eyes and a test for the nerves.
The Links Golf Course
The second Belle Mare Plage Resort Championship Golf Course, designed by Rodney Wright and Peter Allis opened in November 2002. This 18-hole Links course was conceived as a result of the success and demands encountered by Hotels Constance's first course, 'The Legend'. Sitting beneath the clubhouse which faces the setting sun, the course measures 5,942 m and has a par of 71. Equipped with a practice fairway, this 18-hole course is set in a location which seems to have been naturally created for the purpose.
Our Managing Director, Chris and his now wife, Liane spent their honeymoon at the Belle Mare Plage and they said that their highlight in particular was the choice of restaurants and the social atmosphere that the hotel provided. It may not necessarily be to the liking of all honeymooners who may want something smaller and more quiet and in this case we would either suggest staying at the Belle Mare Plage’s sister hotel Le Prince Maurice. It does, however, tick the boxes for most honeymooners who are after a lovely beach, a luxurious spa and 5 star food and service.

The Belle Mare Plage offer s a very attractive Honeymoon Special where during the months between the 19th April and the 20th Oct the there is a 50% discount on the bride and 30% off during the rest of the year (except the festive season).
If you wish to stay in a villa or the presidential villa there is a 30% discount on the global villa rate on a bed and breakfast basis. Valid from the 19th April to the 20th October.
On arrival honymooners will receive the following in their room: seasonal flowers placed in room with one bottle of wine & canapés; a special turndown: flower petals & candles in room & bathroom (on arrival day); one seafood candlelit dinner excluding drinks + photo souvenir and on departure gifts in room at turndown.
Guests will be entitled to the above gifts if they spend a minimum stay of 5 paying nights at the hotel.
Anniversaries
The Belle Mare Plage offer s a very attractive Anniversary Special where during the months between the 19th April and the 20th Oct the there is a 50% discount on one spouse and 30% off during the rest of the year (except the festive season).

Although the accomodation in itself were beautiful, the overall experience at Belle Mare were below expectations given the cost of drinks and food. £17.50 for a burger and £6 for the local beer i believe is too high.

The location, hospitality, staff & food were magnificent; however, the cost of food & drink rather spoiled it somewhat

In comparison to Great Fish River Lodge Belle Mare Plage wasn't all inclusive, therefore the costs were recognised instantly with the drinks and lunchtime meals.
Whilst staff were polite it didn't have the same atmosphere of Knwandwe as the guest numbers were greatly increased.
Overall we enjoyed our stay at Belle Mare Plage very much.
