Merville Beach Hotel Hotel in Mauritius

Sarah Fox, Mauritius

For a 3 star superior hotel I was very surprised at what Merville Beach did offer. The beach is really lovely as are the gardens in which the hotel is set. I enjoyed the buzz at the bar and recommend the deluxe rooms in the garden court rather than in the main building. They are quieter and have great beach access. The location of the hotel is ideal for exploring Grand Bay and going on excursions and the price is very appealing if you are looking to enjoy the delights of Mauritius without breaking the bank. The Spa is particularly noteworthy with brilliant views over the sea (not common in spas in Mauritius).

Merville Beach Hotel, is situated in the north of the island, near the seaside village of Grand Baie. Formerly a fishermen village, this place has since turned into one of the trendiest places in Mauritius and is often referred to as the local Riviera. Merville Beach is a 3-star Superior Category hotel located right in front of a marvellous stretch of pristine sandy beach and also possesses a charming tropical garden. Merville Beach’s guests are regulars: many of them have been returning for numerous years - it’s no secret for them that the region is one the sunniest parts of the island, enjoying an all year round nice climate. The resort offers half-board or an optional all-inclusive package.

Room Types

Our Comments and Suggestions on choosing a Room Type:

The Deluxe Rooms in the garden court are by far the best rooms and the ones we always try to recommend. They have great beach access and are further away from the busy main hotel area. They are also the largest rooms.

The Standard Rooms are all situated in the main building and are each 29 sq metres.

The Superior Rooms are situated in the Garden Court and offer views over the water pond and its small bridge, four of the rooms are in the main building. The superior rooms in the garden court are a little bigger than those in the main building (34 sq metres v 30 sq metres).

The Deluxe Rooms are either situated in the bungalows area of the grounds or in the Garden Court. The latter have a larger balcony or patio area.

The Deluxe Family Rooms are 42 sq metres and are in the bungalows area in the beautiful grounds of the hotel.

The all inclusive nature of the hotel (if you opt for this option) ensures that parents aren’t continuously worrying about every drink or snack being consumed by their children going onto a large bill at the end of the stay. During school holidays there will be plenty of other families at the hotel providing children with other children to play with and the kids club will keep children so entertained that parents can take a well earned break. The hotel is close to Grand Bay to get out and about and partake in excursions. There is no kid’s club at this hotel, however, there are children’s activities provided throughout the day.
