Day 1 – 3

Maun to Xakanaxa

A representative will be there to welcome you on your arrival at Maun Airport and assist you with checking in and boarding your onward flight to the Xakanaxa in a light aircraft. Your exact departure time from Maun Airport will be advised closer to the time (mid-day to early afternoon), as this depends on Air Botswana's flight schedule. For those guests who plan on spending a pre-safari night in Maun (highly recommended after a long-haul flight), please arrange a hotel transfer to the airport to meet your guide at the specified time, or make an arrangement for your guide to meet you at the hotel before going to the airport. The flight from Maun to the Xakanaxa is approximately 25 minutes. Your guide will meet you on arrival at Xakanaxa airstrip in Moremi Game Reserve and transfer you to your pre-erected camp where the rest of the safari team will be awaiting your arrival. Spending the following three nights camping in the Xakanaxa region, we explore the surrounding wilderness and waterways on game drive and by motorboat.

On day 3 you will embark on a water world adventure, exploring the endless network of crystal clear waterways and secret lagoons by motorboat, and the surrounding palm fringed islands on foot. After a full day on the water, we return to dry land for our last night in Xakanaxa.

Lodging: 3 nights in a Tented Camp
Activities: Scenic Flight, Game Drive and Boating
Day 4 – 6

Xakanaxa to Khwai

You will drive from Xakanaka to an area called Khwai just north of the Moremi Game. You will spend the following 3 nights in Khwai where you can enjoy game drives, walks and evening game drives.

Lodging: 3 nights in a Tented Camp
Activities: Game Drive, Walking Safaris and Night Drive
Day 7

Khwai to Maun

After breakfast we take a game-drive to the airstrip where you will be met by your charter flight back to Maun.

Info

Travel Days

On our travel days we have an early start, pack our bags and leave camp to have breakfast somewhere scenic. Following breakfast we game drive towards our next camp stopping for tea/coffee and cookies and later for a relaxing lunch under a shady grove of trees. Invariably lunch finds us within a short distance of our camp and we arrive in camp to find our crew has once again erected the camp at our new destination. There is time for a shower before afternoon tea and then it is time to begin our exploration of the area. Please note that this is a rough outline of a travel day and events change from safari to safari depending on the distribution of game, distance between camps, conditions of the roads and the decision of your guide etc. Travel times are a rough indication of the driving time from one camp to another and do not include time taken for breaks and wildlife viewing.

Exploration Days

The best game viewing is the early morning and so each day begins at the first hint of dawn with a coffee and light breakfast around the fire. From here we go straight into game drive, walking safari or boat trip. After several hours of wildlife viewing we stop for a comfort break and have tea, coffee and cookies. Between 10 and 11 am we return to camp where there is time to freshen up with warm water in your standing basins before enjoying a sumptuous brunch consisting of fresh-baked camp bread, baked dishes and cold salads. After brunch there is time to relax, siesta, read a book, shower etc. before heading out in the late afternoon for our game-drive or boat trip. In areas outside of the National Parks we may also return to camp after dark with the use of a spotlight to look for nocturnal game.

This is a guideline as to what happens on most exploration days. The course of each day’s events will be determined by local conditions, distribution of wildlife and birds, safety and the decision of your guide.

Lodging

Our guests are accommodated in spacious (3m x 3m), walk-in wilderness safari tents with large breezy windows, a private bathroom en-suite and a shaded veranda. The tents are furnished with two single beds, complete with mattresses, duvets and pillows (bed and bath linen are provided), a bedside table, a small carpet and a battery powered lamp. A hand basin for each guest is provided on the verandah area of your tent. Guest tents are serviced daily. The en-suite bathroom includes a hot water bucket shower with shower mat, PVC toilet and a small trestle table for your toiletries. The central guest area is set out in the open wilderness, taking full advantage of our natural surroundings, and is furnished with a dining table and directors chairs.
