Pestana Bazaruto Lodge is situated in the largest island of the Bazaruto Archipelago, approximately 800 km to the north of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. The island of Bazaruto is undoubtedly a beautiful and unexplored destination, characterised by its wildlife, turquoise waters and idyllic beaches. Location

By Air: 2 hour flight from Johannesburg to Vilanculos followed by a short 15 min flight to Bazaruto Island. (Twice weekly there is also a direct flight from the Kruger Mpumalanga Airport to Vilanculos)

Highlights

  • With approximately 37 km of reef suitable for diving Bazaruto is the perfect destination for divers. The reef has been compared to that of the Great Barrier Reef.
  • There are some wonderful shore entry snorkelling spots, where even young children can experience the wonders of the ocean in complete safety.
  • Why not try a walking trail which could lead you to interesting areas such as mangrove communities, freshwater lakes and turtle nests.

Mozambique was like nothing we've ever experienced before. As we toured the island of Benguerra and experienced the local life, we felt so many emotions. Something we've never felt before from other vacations we've taken.
