Sossus Dune Lodge

Sossus Dune Lodge is situated within the Namib-Naukluft Park, close to the Sesriem Canyon, and providing sweeping vistas of the dunes to the west. It was the first upmarket lodge to be built by the Namibia Wildlife Resorts company, a government para-statal. The benefit of a stay here is that guests are able to reach Sossusvlei before sunrise, or to stay until after sunset. The lodge is built in an environmentally sensitive manner, primarily from wood, canvas and thatch, in an attractive 'afro-village' style. All rooms offer magnificent open vistas of the surrounding landscapes.

Location

Around 5 hours' drive from Windhoek. Sossus Camp is about 4km from the gate, inside the Namib Naukluft National Park.

Highlights

  • The highlight of this lodge is its superb location. Being inside the park you are able to enjoy sunrise and sunset without having to dash to or from the gate at opening and closing times. It is arguably the best lodge to catch the early morning rays on the dunes, perfect for your photos!
  • If you enjoy walking you can walk directly from the Lodge into the nearby Sesriem Canyon, and there is also a mountain behind the lodge that's worth exploring. It's a short drive to Elim Dune, which is very popular for climbing.
