Namibia, as they say is the land of contrasts, and having had first hand experience of this beautiful country, I can agree full heartedly. I visited Namibia in February 2006 with a group of fellow tourism associates, on a mission to learn about the 'Land of Contrasts'.

The lush savannah area of the Caprivi Strip, also known as the panhandle, stretches eastwards to the border junction of Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. The area is bordered by the Kwando, Linyanti, Chobe and Zambezi Rivers and to the east the Okavango. The backwaters and floodplains of the region are bursting with colour and life; here man and wildlife live side by side. A trip across the Caprivi can be a great opportunity to meet the many and varied peoples of the Namibia and experience village life. Children herding goats across the road, women selling fruit and carvings from makeshift stalls offer a warm welcome.

Wildlife in the Caprivi has recovered from years of poaching, and its superb conservation areas may in the future rival Etosha. Almost 70% of the bird species found in Namibia have been recorded in the Caprivi. There are several safari lodges in the area and activities include hiking, game-viewing safaris or a river trip in a traditional mokoro.
