Namibia, as they say is the land of contrasts, and having had first hand experience of this beautiful country, I can agree whole heartedly. I visited Namibia in February 2006 with a group of fellow tourism associates, on a mission to learn about the 'Land of Contrasts'.

Okonjima, home of the AfriCat Foundation, is only 2 1/2 hours, drive north of Windhoek. AfriCat is a non-profit organisation committed to long term conservation of Namibia's large carnivores, especially cheetahs and leopards. There are a variety of accommodation options at Okonjima and plenty of activities to partake in.

Leopards are frequently seen, giving you an opportunity to observe these magnificent predators from a hide or a radio-tracked from the game viewing vehicles. The leopards are monitored daily. Guests can join in as the staff track the leopards within the rehabilitation park or on the leopard trail.

The Cheetah project offers valuable insight into the welfare work of the Africat Foundation. Cheetahs within the rehabilitation area can be radio-tracked on foot.

The Bushman Trail offers an opportunity for you to experience a day in the life of a Bushman. It constitutes an easy walking trail and is highly informative. You get to learn about the art of making traditional artefacts and how the San adapt and survive in an unforgiving wilderness environment.

Client Comments

Namibia is a totally different Safari experience to that of East Africa. The people were very friendly and the diverse landscapes from riverbeds to semi arid area right to the dunes were stunning. The Mahlatini Team were very helpful and I appreciate all the information, advice and tips given in advance. The whole trip was very adventurous and exciting.
