February Game Viewing News from Kwara
posted in Botswana Safaris on Friday, March 12, 2010

The 2010 floodwater is upon us at Kwara once again. The extreme western areas of the concession have begun to rise ever so slowly in anticipation of the big push that will be coming in the next couple of months. The annual flood is a natural miracle of nature that provides multitudes of animal’s precious water supplies in the dry season as the surrounding Kalahari droughts. Buffalos, Elephants and a host of other game migrates into the floodplains to swell the animal populations and booster already spectacular game viewing for guests.
Kwara is home to a new Leopard cub after a month old animal was spotted with its mother several times over the last few weeks. The pair are still understandably shy and defensive but lucky guests at Kwara have still managed to get some spectacular shots of our newest addition.
The seven male Lions are still separated into two smaller groups at the moment and only meet up occasionally. One group was seen with a female who was spoilt for choice about which one to mate.
Elsewhere we have been seeing Wild Dogs in the Tsum Tsum area once again this month.

Rusheguru Gorillas visit Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp
posted in Uganda Safaris on Friday, March 5, 2010

Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, located deep inside Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in southwest Uganda lived up to its name once more after gorillas from the Rushegura family visited the lodge again for a few hours. This family of Gorillas has started visiting Forest Camp frequently with several in the last month. The animals looked so relaxed and there was an aura of ownership around them as they slowly munched the rich vegetation surrounding the lodge entrance. Undoubtedly, everyone who saw them realised that the gorillas and not the lodge were the actual owners of this fabulous location.

East Africa Single Visa Possibly Implemented By June
posted in Tanzania Safaris on Thursday, March 4, 2010

The introduction of a single tourist visa for five countries in East Africa could be implemented by as soon as June. The East African Community visa will allow tourists to travel freely through the following countries: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. This should dramatically reduce the cost of Visa's for visitors entering more than one of these countries on their holiday.

The group is also setting a common code of conduct for tour operators, establishing professional standards for travel agents, creating standardized hotel classifications and adopting common policies on wildlife management.

At a meeting of the East African Community (EAC) ministerial council on Tourism and Wildlife Management the ministers directed the secretariat to expedite the process for the implementation of this Visa to June this year.

A work plan for the study and piloting of single tourist visa from February to September 2010 has been developed and test runs are expected to involve nationals from South Africa, the UK, USA, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Japan, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium and the Scandinavian countries.
