Gunn’s in Botswana will be re-opening in July as an exclusive 6 tented camp with new, luxurious vintage safari tents. Each tent will feature open lounges and stylish furnishings.

All tents are situated within the island that is populated densely with trees thus ensuring privacy and tranquility. Each tent is styled traditionally with an eclectic mixture of solid wood and African furniture. Over in Le Quartier Francais’ award winning restaurant ‘The Tasting Room’, Executive Chef Margot Janse and her team have been included in another ‘San Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants’ list for the 6th year running. She is the only woman to be included in the list and it shows you just how highly Le Quartier Francais dining is thought of.

The Tasting Room was listed as number 31 in recognition of their innovative cuisine which is an amazing accomplishment.

Serena Hotels to open new Safari Camp in Soysambu Kenya

Construction of this new luxury tented camp began this month and is due to open on the 15th of December 2010. Elementaita Serena Camp will offer a blend of exclusivity and adventure. The camp will include 25 luxury tents and is located along the shores of the flamingo and pelican rich lake of Elementaita. The camp is situated in the Soysambu Conservancy which is roughly 120km from Nairobi and 30km from Lake Nakuru National Park. Facilities will include a dining and lounge area, swimming pool and spa. Of course, the magnificent views of the lake will be one of the camps main attractions.

Gorilla Tracking Permits increased in Uganda

Two new gorilla families have been introduced to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest by Uganda Wildlife Authority. The new families, who have been named Orugonzo and Kahungye, have been habituated and are set for tracking in June of this year. The Orugonzo family are located in the Mburameizi area of the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and can be easily reached from Gorilla Forest Camp. The Kahungye family will be located in the eastern part of the forest in the Nkuringo Sector. This brings the total number of tracking groups from 7 to 9 and the available gorilla permits from 56 to 72 of which 40 will be accessible from Gorilla Forest Camp. The camp manager will be tracking these groups ahead of their official opening.

Completed refurbishments at Chiefs Camp Botswana

As of the 21st of April 2010, the award winning Chief’s Camp in Botswana will be open with their newly refurbished main area. Decking in the lounge and decking area will be extended along with new complimentary furniture and thatched roof. Evening dining and barbeque nights will now be in the new boma area and deck, giving visitors an even greater experience in this beautiful camp. Likewise, the bar and gift area have also under-gone some refurbishment and their room sizes extended. To top it off, a new library area has also been constructed, where visitors can take their books or laptops and relax without a care in the world.

Singita Game Reserves introduce excursions

Singita Game Reserves have introduced day excursions to the Northern Serengeti. These excursions will give visitors the opportunity to follow the annual wildebeest migration after they have moved through the 350,000 acre Singita Grumeti Reserves. Excursions will be offered 3 times a week through September and November and will include a short 20 minute flight from Singita Grumeti Reserves to the Kogatende landing strip.
