The Wildebeest arrival
posted in Tanzania on Monday, December 7, 2009

Arguably one of nature’s greatest sights is the Wildebeest migration. The Wildebeest have moved to southern Tanzania with the dramatic and exhilarating event now best viewed at the remote tented camp, Sanctuary Kusini. The herds have returned followed closely by hungry predators. The old rivalries between the migrating Wildebeest and Cheetah create some spectacular and unmissable game sightings. This truly is an unforgettable event and one that you will never forget.

Eco Friendly Tanzania
posted in Tanzania on Wednesday, December 2, 2009

November of this year has seen Regional Air Services in Tanzania offsetting some of the company’s carbon footprint with ‘Carbon Tanzania’; a scientific and authentic environmental organisation. Carbon Tanzania, to which regional offset funds will be channelled, is aiming to protect and regenerate existing indigenous forests throughout Tanzania via community-based natural resource management. Currently the project has focused on the forest in Arkaria Village, Monduli Hills, 40km west of Arusha. Regional endeavours are trying to be as eco-friendly as possible throughout the operations. For example, motor vehicles have been replaced with bicycles and plastic water bottles are being sent to be crushed making them easier to recycle. Office paper is recycled and office waste is composted where possible.

Migration at Sabora Tented Camp
posted in Tanzania on Thursday, November 5, 2009

Located in northern Tanzania on the wilderness plains of Singita Grumeti Reserves, Sabora Tented Camp is once again in the midst of an annual migration. Huge numbers of Wildebeest herds have begun returning from the northern Serengeti to join already existing populations of Topi, Thompson Gazelles and Zebra. Usually around this time of year herds are further north. East Africa on the other hand has been experiencing extended dry spells and last months early rainfall in the Grumeti Reserves created what seemed like a scene from the migration during the months of June and July.

Swala Camp in Tanzania reopens after refurbishment
posted in Tanzania on Thursday, August 13, 2009

Set to become one of Tanzania’s most iconic retreats, Sanctuary Swala Camp is now fully open following a US$1.5 million rebuild. The camp now offers guests a completely new safari experience of ‘luxury, naturally’ whilst causing minimum impact on the local environment.

Developed to the highest eco-friendly standards, the camp is located in a secluded area of Tarangire National Park. As one of the country’s most exciting yet least visited parks, guests will often only share their visit with the large herds of elephants that favour this exclusive corner of the park. It is also fast building a reputation for being one of the best locations to get up close to bat-eared foxes.

Each of the 12 luxurious canvas pavilions has been exquisitely designed to a spacious open plan basis, with large living area, king bed and en suite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers.

Floor to ceiling canvas windows lead onto large private lounge decks that overlook the main watering hole which regularly draws lions, leopards and resident bull elephants for which Sanctuary Swala Camp is famed.

A stunning infinity swimming pool has been added and the new main dining and lounge areas feature chic, contemporary African design below traditional thatched roof structures. The extensive decked area provides the perfect setting for leisurely sundowners and elegant al fresco dining whilst enjoying outstanding views over the waterhole and valley beyond.

Taking safari to a new level of "luxury", the camp is sumptuous whilst still retaining the feeling of living in the African bush. The wilderness experience is accentuated by unparalleled guiding expertise and will soon offer the exciting option of walking safaris.
