Accommodation in Seychelles
Of the 115 islands in the Seychelles archipelago there are only a small number which offer facilities for guests.
The largest and most developed island is Mahe on which the capital, Victoria, and the main international airport are situated and this will be all visitors’ first experience of the Seychelles. Mahe is approximately 40 km long by 8 km wide, the most popular area of the island is the Beau Vallon Bay area where several resorts are situated on a white crescent shaped beach. Generally the further south you go in Mahe the quieter it becomes with several resorts offering a more secluded and exclusive experience, while still not being far from either the capital for shopping and the airport, nowhere in Mahe being more than a 30 minute drive away.
The island of Praslin is the second largest island in the group. Lacking even a town, Praslin offers a smaller selection of luxurious properties all located on their own beautiful beaches. Much less busy or developed than Mahe, Praslin is reached by either a domestic 15 minute inter island flight a helicopter transfer or a 60 minute catamaran transfer from Mahe.
Approximately nine or ten outer or smaller islands offer an 'island resort’ experience. Often built into lush tropical hillsides or surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and offering stunning views of white sand beaches fringed by lush groves of coconut casuarina and banana plantations, these island resorts often offer the ultimate in luxurious island retreats.
Island hopping is possible between the islands either by regular flights, helicopter or boat both for day trips and for two or three centre combinations in the same itinerary.
