Based in the Greater St Lucia Wetlands area, a World Heritage site, the Lodge offers 50km of untouched coastline offering amazing opportunities for snorkelling and off shore scuba diving. The thatched open plan rooms really make you feel part of the environment blending in to the coastal forest canopy.

Location

Thonga Beach Lodge is approximately 5 hours drive up the coast from Durban. You will leave your vehicle for the last hour’s drive which will be in one of the lodge’s 4x4 vehicles along the forested dune roads. It is also possible to get a charter flight to Manzengwenya airstrip only 30 minutes drive away, or you can get a scheduled flight to Richard’s Bay roughly 3 to 4 hours drive away.

Activities

Turtle tracking (November to March), snorkelling and scuba diving, kayaking and sundowners on Lake Sibaya, bird watching, fishing , forest/wilderness walks, Tsonga cultural visits and the Open Ocean Experience where it is possible to spot dolphins, whale sharks and other marine life.

Child Policy

Children are welcome. One child can share a room with two adults. Children under 12 are discounted 50% when sharing, children 12 – 18 are discounted 25% when sharing.

Thonga Beach Lodge offers 2 double sea view rooms, 3 twin sea view rooms and 7 standard twin rooms. All rooms are thatched and open plan with a private bathroom and balcony. Every room has air conditioning and either a sea or coastal forest view.

South Africa Review

We have been to South Africa before in February/March when it is the depths of winter in the UK. Envigorating to get away from our dismal weather and the South Africans we have met have always made us welcome. Where we have been, we have alway felt safe although we have clearly avoided the townships...
