Amakhala Game Reserve – Reed Valley Inn, South Africa

Reed Valley Inn is a beautiful historic homestead. It really evokes a feeling a colonial home in the 1800’s. The owners Rod and Tracey are simply delightful. I particularly enjoyed having a drink with them in their beautiful pub. Reed Valley Inn is excellent value for money providing exactly the same game experience as the other lodges at a cheaper rate.

The Amakhala Game Reserve began in 1999 as a joint conservation venture. Today, six independently owned lodges of The Heritage Collection, are all TGCSA Star Lodge accredited. The lodges are owner managed by the descendants of the original families who arrived here with the British settlers of 1820. The lodges offer various styles of accommodation, which include two gracious colonial homesteads, two classic bush lodges, an historic inn and a Settler farmhouse.

Reed Valley has been in the Weeks family for over one hundred years. Rod and Tracey Weeks are now the fifth generation on Reed Valley which is part of the Amakhala Game Reserve. Reed Valley Inn is nestled in a farmyard and is comprised of four historic en-suite country rooms, which once provided rest and safety for the travellers on the mail wagon. Each room has a separate entrance on to a private patio. Children of all ages are welcome.

Holiday to South Africa during February 2011

South Africa Review

We have been to South Africa before in February/March when it is the depths of winter in the UK. Envigorating to get away from our dismal weather and the South Africans we have met have always made us welcome. Where we have been, we have alway felt safe although we have clearly avoided the townships...
