I was lucky enough to stay one night with Mike, Justine and their wonderful staff. The rooms at Safari Lodge are gorgeous! I particularly enjoyed my candlelit bubble bath overlooking the African bush. Amakhala is my favourite game reserve in the Eastern Cape largely because of the people. The lodges are family run and the owners are dedicated to ensuring guests have last memories. I always get fantastic reports back from guests who remark that Safari Lodge is excellent value for money.

The Amakhala Game Reserve began in 1999 as a joint conservation venture. Today, six independently owned lodges of The Heritage Collection, are all TGCSA Star Lodge accredited. The lodges are owner managed by the descendants of the original families who arrived here with the British settlers of 1820. The lodges offer various styles of accommodation, which include two gracious colonial homesteads, two classic bush lodges, an historic inn and a Settler farmhouse.

Safari Lodge is tucked away in a valley of indigenous bush at the northern boundary of the 7000 hectare Amakhala Game Reserve. Nestled between Shamwari Game Reserve and Addo Elephant National Park, its location is ideal for the best wildlife viewing South Africa has to offer. This intimate thatched lodge with its unique air-conditioned safari huts offers all the comforts of a luxury five star lodge and is an undisturbed retreat where you can regenerate your soul and tune into the sounds of nature.

Client Comments

I particularly liked the personal service at Acorn House in Cape Town. I liked the personal service we received at Overmeer in Knysna. The safari at Jaci’s Lodge in Madikwe was great fun and inspiring and I hope that some day I can return.
