Chapungu is a small, laid back camp with a real barefoot feel. It is intimate and homely which may not suit all guests. You have a real feeling of being right in the middle of the bush and obviously sleeping under canvas has a real authentic feel to it. I would recommend it for more adventurous types.

Chapungu Luxury Tented Camp, deep in the private Thornybush Game Reserve bordering the Kruger National Park is one of the country's great tracts of untamed game-viewing. Washed with the warmth and colour of the afternoon sun and in true African style, luxury tents overlook the magnificent bushveld. It is here that guests while away moments relaxing and reflecting on the tranquillity and intimacy afforded by this small camp. Eight comfortable tents, each with private facilities and featuring a bushveld bath are connected by pathways with the main Camp. In every instance Chapungu luxury tented Camp has captured the magic of the African Bush!

Location

Access by air from the Hoedspruit Airport which is approximately a 30 minute drive from the lodge. The drive time to Thornybush Game Lodge by road from Johannesburg is approximately 6 – 7 hours.

  • Relax in a hot bath after an exciting day's game viewing in the bushveld. Each tent features a bushveld bath overlooking the scenic African bush.
  • Thornybush Private Game Reserve offers unique exclusive Safari experiences in both open Land Rovers, and on foot. Thornybush is home to an abundance of species: 147 mammals including the "Big Five", 114 reptiles, 507 birds, 49 fish, 34 amphibians and 336 trees.
