Makweti Safari Lodge


Makweti is in the Malaria Free Welgevonden Private Reserve, which is in the Limpopo Province of South Africa and is contiguous with the Marakele National Park. Makweti is a small, luxurious and personalised safari lodge with five elegant thatch and stone suites accommodating just 10 guests. Diverse wildlife, including the Big Five and over 300 species of birds can be seen on the reserve. Game viewing is in open vehicles or on walking safaris over 37,000 hectares of wooded mountain landscape. Makweti is a privately owned property and general managers Jacques and Mariez are there to welcome everyone as if it is their own home.

Location

Makweti is an easy three hour drive from Johannesburg. Air charters and road transfers are available to the Welgevonden Private Reserve.

Child Policy

Children of 12 and older are welcome at Makweti. All children over 12 years will pay the full adult rate and be accommodated in their own room. Makweti Lodge is available for exclusive use, in which case children of any age can be accommodated.

The Makweti Safari Lodge offers the following room type:

The Secluded Suites accommodate a maximum of 10 guests at any one time. They are furnished with polished timber and crisp linens. Of the 5 suites 2, 3 & 4 have private plunge pools and Salas. Each suite is individually decorated with antique treasures and plush furnishings offer an escape from a busy world. All suites have elongated decks accommodating a sun lounger and a two seater table for private dinners in the summer months.

Hotel Features:

Guest Areas - The main lodge is built from natural rock with wooden teak decks overhanging the dramatic Makweti Gorge. Rare African art, stylish furnishings, rich woods, leather and woven textures create a homely elegance.

Boma / Dining Room - Candlelit gourmet dinners are served in the romantic dining room or under the starry night sky beside a flickering fire in the boma.

Indaba Lounge - a private lounge area ideal for a relaxing afternoon, the lounge is comfortably decorated and overlooks a waterhole that is frequented by a wide variety of game in the area.

It is an ideal spot to read and watch game and birds, the lounge offers a tea and coffee making facility, drinks are served at clients request and a wide variety of nature books and magazines are available.

Swimming Pool - set amidst rocks, with private sundecks, surrounded by the bushveld.

Tsala - offers a secluded, thatched retreat.

Activities

A rather green time of year - we preferred the spectacular colours of November time Weather excellent and we had a great time
