The Reserve strategically sandwiched between the Kruger National Park and the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. The unfenced borders between MalaMala Game Reserve and the Kruger National Park on one side, and the Sabi Sand Wildtuin on the other allows animals to migrate unhindered to the perennial Sand River which flows north to south through MalaMala for 20 kilometres (13 miles). The region is home to huge concentrations of free roaming elephant, lion, rhino, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, and literally hundreds of other species of wild mammal.

MalaMala Game Reserve offers a range of accommodation across three camps to appeal to every type of traveller. Families are welcome at MalaMala Main Camp, where 'Junior Rangers' are treated to an educational yet entertaining bush experience. MalaMala and Sable Camp only accommodate 6 guests per safari vehicle whilst Rattray’s on MalaMala limits the number of guests per safari vehicle to 4.
MalaMala is renowned internationally for the quality of its leopard viewing. 99% of guests spending 2 nights at MalaMala will experience more than one leopard sighting a day – many of which involve other predators and most certainly prey.
The MalaMala Game Reserve is the oldest and most historic private game reserve in South Africa and has been in existence since 1927.
It has gained its impressive reputation through sound conservation management, sheer size of land and a 19 kilometre/12 mile unfenced border shared with the Kruger National Park and is known as one of the best game viewing destinations in the world.

Accommodation:: Rhino Post Camp - 8 luxury suites has an en suite bathroom with 'his and hers' basins, freestanding bath, separate toilet, and a private outdoor shower.; Plain’s Camp - 4 comfortably furnished African explorer style tents, en suite with hot running water.; Sleep Outs - 'Sleep Outs' are on elevated wooden platforms. This is the only place in the Kruger National Park offering this unusual accommodation. There are 2 bathrooms with hot showers and flushing toilets. 8 guests per Sleep Out and 2 armed guards.
Meal Basis:: Full board accommodation including all meals and snacks, teas and coffees, game drives and game walks, laundry services and transfers to and from the airstrip at Mala Mala Game Reserve.

Location

SA Airlink operates a daily scheduled flight service from O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB) directly into the MalaMala airfield (AAM) in the MalaMala Game Reserve. Drive time from here to Main Camp and Sable Camp is 5 minutes and to Rattray’s 10 minutes. Daily scheduled flights from Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg operate into Kruger Mpumalanga Airport (MQP). These are operated by Airlink and SA Express. This airport is situated close to the town of Nelspruit and transfers to MalaMala can be provided by either a small light aircraft (30 minute air transfer) or a road transfer (2 hour transfer). Private charters can also be arranged.
