Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge, South Africa

Adam Chapman

This is a great lodge particularly for families. It is larger than the other Sabi Sabi lodges and I suppose more social. It is well located for fantastic game sightings and it has been running for years so experience ensures good service and guiding. For those looking for something quieter and more remote I would suggest Little Bush Lodge instead.

Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge is situated within South Africa's famous Sabi Sand Reserve, forming part of the Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve. This award winning private game reserve offers world-class standards in luxury accommodation, exceptional close wildlife encounters, personal service and delicious cuisine. For decades Bush Lodge has been Sabi Sabi's flagship lodge, famed for its warmth, vibrancy and legendary hospitality. A favourite amongst travellers in search of luxury accommodation, Bush Lodge is a luxurious safari escape set in the heart of the Sabi Sabi bushveld overlooking a waterhole and an African plain.

Location

There are daily scheduled flights from O.R. Tambo (Johannesburg) International Airport directly to the Sabi Sabi Airstrip. You could also fly from Johannesburg / Cape Town or Durban into Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) (Nelspruit) with a short hop to the Sabi Sabi Airstrip. From here Sabi Sabi is a 2 hour scenic drive from Nelspruit. Private air charters and helicopter transfers are available on request. Sabi Sabi is about a 5 hour drive from Johannesburg.

Highlights

  • With no fences between the reserve and the Kruger Park, big game abounds, moving freely through this unspoiled part of the ancient African continent. The Reserve is blessed with a great biodiversity of habitat and wildlife giving an excellent chance of close encounters with the 'Big Five' - elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard - as well as wild dog and cheetah. With over 300 bird species, the reserve is a birdwatcher's delight.
  • There has been no hunting here for over half a century and the animals have become habituated to - and relaxed in the presence of - safari vehicles. The ultimate destination for a luxury safari; visitors to Sabi Sabi can look forward the unique experience of close encounters with animals as they continue unperturbed in their natural daily patterns of hunting, feeding, courting and suckling.
