Singita Sweni Lodge, South Africa

Adam Chapman

Situated fairly close to its sister camp Singita Lebombo. Sweni doesn't have the amazing views of Lebombo but instead looks out over the Sweni river. This small, intimate camp again offers exceptional service, accommodation and guiding offered by all the Singita properties and is also situated in the same fantastic concession as Singita Lebombo in the Kruger National Park with its exceptional game viewing.

Singita Sweni Lodge is the satellite property to Singita Lebombo Lodge situated in the eastern south central part of the Kruger National Park, along the N'wanetsi River. The Lebombo Concession is exclusive to guests at Singita. Sweni Lodge was influenced by the structures of dens, warrens and lairs found in the area. Flanking the Sweni River, this tranquil sanctuary is elevated on stilts with decks of timber. Even when you're indoors, you'll have the sensation of being close to the river and trees. The six secluded suites, with tactile furnishings, have been carefully created to bring in the textures and shades of the bush. Try the outdoor shower overlooking the river or – for a magical experience – 'camp out' under the stars on the day bed out on your viewing deck.

Location

Drive time from Johannesburg to Singita Lebombo is 8 hours, from the Kruger Mpumalanga Airport (KMIA) 4 hours, from Hoedspruit Airport 2-3 hours and from Skukuza 2-3 hours. Federal Air offers a daily return flight direct to Singita Kruger National Park from Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport. Federal Air also provides air transfers to and from KMIA. Federal Air is currently connecting all flights arriving and departing into KMIA that fall into the operating period for Satara, the airstrip in Kruger National Park that Singita uses, as set by the Parks Board. There are daily scheduled flights from Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban currently operated by SA Airlink into the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport. Private charter flights can be arranged.

Holiday to South Africa during February 2011

South Africa Review

We have been to South Africa before in February/March when it is the depths of winter in the UK. Envigorating to get away from our dismal weather and the South Africans we have met have always made us welcome. Where we have been, we have alway felt safe although we have clearly avoided the townships...
