Jatinga Country Lodge, South Africa

Adam Chapman

This is a stunning lodge set in exquisite gardens. The setting is like one of an English country estate and the rooms are reflective of this. The hammocks by the pool are particularly inviting as is the outdoor teas set up under the trees. I didn’t get a chance to sample from the famous restaurant but colleagues have informed me that it is excellent. I normally overnight guests for one night at Jatinga at the beginning or end of a safari to have close access to the Kruger Mpumalanga Airport. But if you have time to spare I recommend really relaxing at Jatinga for two or more nights.

Jatinga is a charming country lodge is nestled in over 30 acres of magnificent gardens with the White River running through the bottom of the property. Originally established and operated as a hunting lodge, Jatinga’s homestead dates back to the 1920s. While extensive renovations were undertaken in 2001 when the Lodge was bought by the current owners, the style and ambience of the homestead has been retained. Both the original fireplaces in the lounge are still intact and in working order! For those with an eye for detail, the homestead’s original air vents – in the shape of an acacia tree shading a thatched hut, are a real treat!. Indulge in laid back Colonial charm and tranquillity, sumptuous cuisine and personalised service. At Jatinga you will experience the unhurried world of genteel hospitality and abundant comfort.

Location

The lodge is located on the outskirts of White River, only 38 km from the Numbi entrance gate into the Kruger National Park and the private reserves of the Sabi Sands. It is also within easy driving distance to the many scenic attractions of the Panorama Route like the Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and the historical mining town of Pilgrim’s Rest. Approximately 15 min’s drive from the Kruger Mpumalanga Airport.

Highlights

  • Arathusa prides itself on its leopard viewing.

  • Large herds of buffalo numbering in excess of 300 often find their way to the Arathusa lake.
  • One need not move far to enjoy the safari experience! Elephants are also seen in numbers.
