Gibbs Farm

Sarah Fox

Aside from the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, Gibbs Farm is my personal favourite place to stay in the Ngorongoro Conversation Area. The slower pace of the farm served to make me relax more fully after hours in a safari vehicle. The new cottages are beautiful! The lodge is very much in the vein of an English country retreat with beautiful gardens and the surrounding farm. I could easily have spent days at Gibbs Farm exploring not just the Crater and Lake Manyara, but also the exquisitely beautiful Ngorongoro Conversation Area and the farm itself. The accommodation is high end and perfect for people wanting to avoid the crowds in the Crater rim properties.

Gibb's Farm is a working farm located on the forested slopes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Ideally located, the Farm lies half way between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, near the village of Karatu. Built in 1929, the Farmhouse has hardly changed, retaining the charm of a well looked-after private house. Gibb's Farm provides a welcome stay on any safari, and a base from which to enjoy the many activities available in the foothills of the Ngorongoro Forest, The Ngorongoro Crater and Manyara National Park. Even if your stay is short, find time for a gentle walk or a tour of our gardens.
