Highlights
- Bottled-nosed dolphins are common off the South coast of the reserve, whales pass through the Zanzibar channel in October and November, and there is a green turtle breeding beach at Madete in the North.
- Elephants have been known to visit the beach and just a stone's throw from the open sea, Hippos wallow in the river estuary.
- A minute's stroll behind the lodge brings you to the hide overlooking a waterhole. Here you can be served sundowners or tea and cake, whilst you watch animals drinking and listen to the sounds of waves breaking on the beach just beyond them.
- The white sandy beach disappears to the horizon in both directions. You can walk barefooted directly from your veranda onto the beach for a gentle stroll.
