Lake Manze Camp, Tanzania

Sarah Fox

I had a great time at Lake Manze Camp. I particularly enjoyed having my breakfast in the open air main camp while watching a whole herd of elephants passing in front of me! The managers Paolo and Daja were extremely accommodating and the food was excellent. I also liked showering in the open air! Bear in mind there is no electricity in the tents which some may label 'rustic'. For those looking for something tamer and a little more luxurious I would recommend Impala Camp instead. However, for those up for a true African adventure, Lake Manze Camp is right up your street.

Lake Manze Camp is located in the Selous Game Reserve, the largest game reserve in Africa and is situated on the banks of Lake Manze. The Lake Manze area is one of the richest for game in the entire Selous, both in the dry and wet season. Doum palms and Terminalia offer shade to the twelve tents which are well spread out, nearly invisible to each other and with good views of the lake. Located on the banks of the lake, guests get a chance to observe families of hippos, sunbathing crocodiles, plentiful elephants, herons and much more.

Location

Lake Manze Camp is a 1 hour game drive from the Siwandu Airstrip. Flights are available twice a day to Siwandu Airstrip from Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar and once a day from Arusha, Manyara and Ruaha with Coastal Aviation. Road access is via Kibiti, Mikumi or Morogoro and is difficult and lengthy but may be fun for the adventurous.
