Selous Impala Camp

Sarah Fox

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Impala Camp. Chole and her team really went to town to look after me and make me feel comfortable. The food was simply suburb. The tents are lovely and the guides were very good. The camp is luxurious but not over the top. I would love to go back and was very sad to leave.

Selous Impala Camp in the Selous is set in Borassus palms and Tamarind trees and provides superb comfort, wonderful wildlife and dining under the stars beside the rippling Rufiji River. There is a large and comfortable thatched low-slung building with wide verandahs where there is a relaxed open plan area with a well stocked bar, dining room and plenty of planters' chairs and sofas so that you can scan the river and banks for game, drink in hand. You might even have to share your table with a curious elephant! Nearby is a sheltered, crystal clear blue swimming pool, just the thing after returning from a game drive in the heat of the day, or to enjoy a sundowner and bathe in the evening.

Location

Half hour game drive from Mtemere Airstrip.

Highlights

  • The view of the river below from the main deck area. It is a simply beautiful setting.
  • The sunsets from the camp remind you of why you came to Africa.
  • The incredible star filled skies at dinner time.
  • Flying into the Selous in a light aircraft.
  • Seeing this spectacular park from above is truly a highlight, as is clearing animals from the airstrip as you come in to land!
  • Listening to the hippos from your tent.
