When to visit Tanzania on your family holiday?
Tanzania can be visited at any time of the year with your family. Arguably the best time to visit the country is between the months of June to October which is when the school summer holidays in Europe take place. This is the dry season in Tanzania, when huge herds of animals congregate together around water sources such as rivers in the main national parks. Tanzania is also superb during the months Dec and Jan when families may also wish to take a holiday. At this time the Serengeti comes into its own as the wildebeest migration is moving through the southern plains. See our safari calendar to discover what is on offer the month you would like to travel.

How to travel Tanzania with your family
Northern Circuit Safaris in Tanzania begin at Kilimanjaro Airport which can be accessed from a variety of airlines from Europe. Generally these safaris are offered on a private basis. This means that you and your family will be collected at the airport and have your own personal safari vehicle with private driver / guide for the duration of the trip, enabling you to dictate your safari experience as you go along. Light aircraft transfers are also easily arranged if you wish to avoid certain long distances drives by flying into your lodge or camp and will add another unique experience to your family holiday.
If you do visit Zanzibar or one of the islands it is generally the rule that you are transferred to your chosen hotel or resort. These resorts provide an abundance of activities to keep you occupied during your stay. Many have dive centres on site, providing snorkelling, water sports and diving and the hotels also provide various other forms of entertainment. Day trips and activities such as swimming with dolphins are easily arranged beforehand or while at your resort.
To do a Southern Circuit safari you and your family would fly into Dar es Salaam and generally access the parks by light aircraft. It is then the norm that you share your game viewing activities with the other guests unless you chose to have a private vehicle. There may be limits on children of a particular age doing the game drives, walks and boat trips so please speak to us and we will advise you on what will best suit your family.
