The Serengeti is probably the most famous National Park in Africa. It can be visited independently on a fly in safari or as a feature in a northern circuit safari. We normally design itineraries to include your 3 or 4 night stay in the Serengeti at the end of your safari. This way your holiday ends on a high.

The varied landscape of the Serengeti; flat-topped acacias, rolling plains, bordered with hills and rocky outcrops typifies most people's dream of Africa. The Serengeti ecosystem supports phenomenal varieties of wildlife and has the highest concentration of mammals on earth with some 2800 lions, an estimated 9000 spotted hyenas and huge populations of plains game; it is one of the finest places in the world to see cheetahs.

The Serengeti is incredibly beautiful in the rainy season, when migrant birds arrive from Asia and Europe. The park can be visited through-out the year but the annual wildebeest migration is the focus for most visitors. The migration is often mistakenly portrayed as an intense but short phase, in fact the 800km pilgrimage for over 2 million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle that group communally for protection, is an ongoing cycle of movement and dispersal. The migratory herds of wildebeest and zebra can be seen in the rich grasslands of the southern Serengeti from December to March. Their young are born between February and March which encourages dramatic predator action. Then in May as the plains of the south and east dry out the mass moves on to the north and west crossing the Grumeti River, where there is more grass and more dependable water. In a dry year, the first wildebeest could be near the Mara River bordering Kenya by early July; in a wet year as late as mid August. The Migration does not always pass into Kenya. Around October the herds begin to reform for the journey south and by December they are dispersing

A safari here is an amazing experience at any time as the landscape is wonderful and there are always resident herds in the park, though the seasons do have a strong influence on your experience.
