Unfortunately I didn't get stay overnight at the hotel but paid it a quick visit. The first thing that struck me was the rooms, which I had heard quite a bit about prior to my stay in Zanzibar. They are everything that they are famous for, utterly unique and filled with character. The second thing that struck me was the number of stairs. This isn't the second tallest building in Stone Town for nothing! There is quite a bit of climbing to reach rooms on the higher floors and the roof top restaurant. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the service of the staff. If you want to have a meal at the famous Rooftop Restaurant, it sits very few so make sure that you book ahead.

In the heart of Stone Town, 236 Hurumzi provides elegant, traditionally furnished, airy rooms and a Tower Top Restaurant with a view of the world. The second tallest building in Stone Town Zanzibar, the hotel has been restored to its former glory when it was the residence of one of the richest men in the Swahili Empire. Atmosphere is of principal import as the furnishings are all original Zanzibari antiques of varied origins and styles that, together, create the impressions of Arabian Nights and sultan princesses escaping in the dead of the night for romance.
