Fundu Lagoon, Tanzania

Contact a specialist about Fundu Lagoon, Tanzania

Fundu Lagoon is on Pemba Island, which is part of the Zanzibar archipelago and lies to the north of its larger, better known sister island, Unguja (Zanzibar). Unlike Unguja, which is flat and sandy, Pemba's terrain is hilly, fertile and heavily vegetated. The hotel is situated on a remote and beautiful beach on the south western side of Pemba, and is only accessible by boat. Fundu is the epitome of a "bare foot paradise" with a distinct Robinson Crusoe air in a remote and peaceful location. It is a place for guests to relax and unwind in casual, yet stylish surroundings.

Location

The main means of visiting Pemba Island are by light aircraft charter or schedule flight. There is also a ferry service but this is not always reliable. The airport is Chake Chake in the centre of the island, and the main port used by the ferry service is Mkoani in the south-west. After arriving at the airport there is a 30 minute vehicle ride to Mkoani Port on a bitumen road. Fundu Lagoon then provides a private speedboat service (20-25 minutes) from Mkoani Port to Fundu Lagoon. There is no useable road access.
