Zambia family holiday
Zambia can be a fantastic destination in Africa for a family holiday. The country has developed a series of 'safari houses' which cater particularly for families and provide the family with their own guide, specific activities and chefs.
Two of such houses can be found in Luangwa National Park where each family is provided with a uniquely designed experience depending on their needs and what is suitable for them. At Robin's House and Luangwa Safari House the children’s experience is considered equal to the adults with inclusions in as many activities as physically possible. The owners at both houses believe that the education and enjoyment of all family members makes the holiday very special and they strive to provide and all round experience. On top of the regular activities that occur at various other camps children can take part in activities such as bird watching for beginners- a starter course which will help children capture bird sightings and learn how to identify the different species, nature walks where they can learn how to track and identify animals from their spoor and droppings and learn how to use spotlights at night.
At each of these houses all combinations are considered to give families the option of taking part in the main events together or alternatively the children can be entertained by the staff. Whilst the adults take part in the more adventurous or lengthy drives the children will get the opportunity to visit the local Kawaza School and meet Zambian Children. Their time at the safari house will always combine fun with learning as they help bake cookies or collect eggs from the hen house equipping them with some important life skills. Older children are given the luxury of a lazy morning with a lie-in followed by a fabulous poolside breakfast, alternatively they may want to take a trip to the workshop or play a spot of beach cricket.
Robins House is a home away from home with exclusive and private accommodation allowing all of the family to relax. For parties under five this Safari house is ideal and fully equipped with a plethora of books, games, paints and a sandpit. Alternatively you may want to stay at Luangwa Safari House for the extra space and comfort. This house comes with eight beds along with a range of games etc. to keep children happy.
In the Zambezi National Park a family's best bet would be Chongwe River Lodge or Kasaka River Lodge which offers a Bush Kids Programme. This would include: specially designed children's safaris; cultural visits to local schools and villages; bush kids activity books; pod and seed collecting; fishing for the legendary Tigerfish; African art and craft lessons; tracking for beginners and evening story while Mum and Dad have a peaceful dinner!
An ideal extension to your safari would be a trip to Lake Malawi or Livingstone and the Victoria Falls.
