Kaluma Tented Camp, Zambia


Kalamu Tented Camp is situated on a bend in the wide hippo-filled Luangwa River in the South Luangwa National Park. Kalamu Tented Camp is closed seasonally between 17 November and 30 April each year.

Location

Kaluma Tented Camp is approximately a 1 hour 20 minute flight from Lusaka and an approximately a 2h00 flight from the Kafue. From Mfuwe it is a 15 minute flight.

Highlights

  • Unique species such as Thornicroft's giraffe and Cookson's wildebeest can also be seen.
  • The deeper pools of the river and a nearby seasonal lagoon hold large vocal pods of hippo and crocodiles. These waters attract elephant, buffalo, puku, impala, yellow baboon and other species in increasing numbers as the season progresses and other water sources dry up.
  • A deck built into a fallen fig tree provides an unusual lookout point from the middle of the Luangwa River!

Holiday to Zambia, South Africa and Botswana during October 2011

Zambia Review

Stayed near Vic Falls for just 2 days so didn't stray much further. Swimming in the devils pool is definitely worth a go though!!
