Day 1 &2:

Depart from Livingstone or Lusaka on a light aircraft flight to Mfuwe Airstrip in the South Luangwa National Park. On arrival you will be met by your driver guide and transferred to Kafunta River Lodge situated on the banks of the Luangwa River. The lodge's location offers the opportunity to discover the game rich Mfuwe area. Game activities at Kafunta River Lodge include game viewing in open vehicles and unique night drives offer the opportunity to view nocturnal animals.

2 x Overnights at Kafunta River Lodge (Full Board)
Day 3 & 4:

After your morning game activities you will head South (2 hour drive) to a really remote area of the South Luangwa National Park where you will stay at Island Bush Camp for the next 2 nights where you will be able to take part in walking safaris or the daily game drives. Island Bush Camp is built from natural, locally sourced materials, and the chalets are set along the banks of the Luangwa River. The camp offers rustic accommodation in grass/reed huts build on stilts that ensure safety from wild animals and provide an unlimited view of the Luangwa River. The camp offers rustic comfort and each chalet has its own en-suite bathroom, with running water, flushing toilets and hot bucket showers. The camp is the base for the daily walking safaris.

2 x Overnights at Island Bush Camp (Full Board)
Day 5:

Today you will transfer for approximately 6 hours to Wilderness Camp in Luambe National Park, located between North and South Luangwa National Parks. This acts as a welcome stopover. The Luambe National Park has only been developed in recent years but is truly part of the Luangwa Valley. Wilderness Camp is set on the banks of the Luangwa River overlooking a huge pod of hippos. Accommodation is provided in safari tents set on wooden platforms with en-suite bathrooms. Depending on our arrival time at the camp, there will be a short game drive in the afternoon or the following morning. In the evening you will enjoy a campfire meal by the Luangwa River.

1 x Overnight at Wilderness Camp (Full Board)
Day 6 - 8:

The next day continue North in a light aircraft, flying from WakaWaka to Mwaleshi airstrip in the North Luangwa National Park. The short flight offers the great opportunity to see this wild area from the air. This more remote park is naturally beautiful and is known for its high population of predators, huge buffalo herds and endemic Cookson's wildebeest which combine to give you a real wilderness experience. North Luangwa is one of the wildest places on earth! You will be staying at Mwaleshi Camp, which is set on the crystal clear Mwaleshi River in the heart of the park. The remote setting of this comfortable camp adds to the real wilderness atmosphere. Mwaleshi Camp will be the base for the following few days where you will discover the wilderness on foot. Driving/walking combinations will allow you to explore different areas of the park.

3 x Overnights at Mwaleshi Camp (Full Board)
Day 9:

A flight from Mwaleshi airstrip takes you back to Mfuwe. This 45 minute flight offers another opportunity to view the mighty Luangwa River from the air. The final days are spent discovering more of the South Luangwa National Park, with morning and afternoon game drives being undertaken from Kafunta River Lodge.

Client Comments

Service at all the accommodation was excellent. We received an especially warm welcome from everyone at Table Mountain Lodge. Service at all the accommodation was excellent but we were especially impressed with Amakhala in the Eastern Cape and Hideaway Guest House in Knsyna.
