Dhow Palace Hotel, Tanzania

Sarah Fox

Like its sister property the Tembo House Hotel, the Dhow Palace is extremely conveniently located for those who want to be in the heart of Stone Town. I loved the feeling that I was a guest in a merchant's house of old. The decor is entirely unique and the roof top restaurant does have incredible views over the city. Like other old houses in Stone Town there are a number of stairs so if you aren't able for a lot of climbing please request a room on one of the lower floors.

The Dhow Palace, with its Arabian archways, authentic Zanzibari antiques and ornate ornaments, was originally an Omani mansion dating back to the 1870s. This graceful building has stood for more than one hundred and forty years in the heart of Stone Town, bearing witness to the events of Zanzibar's history and finally being restored to an elegant hotel. Being right in the heart of Stone Town you don't have far to go to find the shops, restaurants and other historical attractions.

Dhow Palace Hotel is a 10 to 15 minute drive from Zanzibar Airport

Highlights

  • Meals in the newly built restaurant on the rooftop are a treat. You have panoramic views over Stone Town to the ocean. Traditional Swahili beds, wood carved Arab, Indian, Oriental and European style tables and many more.
